Four months ago I decided that the way I was living my life just wasn't working out. I had found out that I had OCD, and I was trying to get over a life ruled by sexual immorality. It has been hard trying to keep God first but very recently I realized that I am losing the motivation to keep God first. Because I have OCD I am usaully finding something to do that keeps my mind off of whatever I am afraid of, this usually meant I would spend hours watching YouTube, reading comic books, and playing video games. Two weeks ago, I noticed that I wasn't keeping God first like I was weeks proior. "I need to read my Bible... right after this video/level/or comic/ etc." this was the same scenario every day. I am trying to keep God first in my life but I am constantly thinking "I'm bored, I think I'll just watch a video or read a comic book" and I guess I just don't know how I can keep God first without giving into these temptations. I also wanted to ask, does keeping God first mean I can't read comic books or watch videos on YouTube? I'm just curious. Thanks

Ness, a very warm welcome to CF!!

Keeping God first does NOT mean that you cannot read comic books or watch videos on YouTube.

Since you like comic books, The Action Bible might interest you.

The Action Bible Devotional might also interest you.

The Action Bible Devotional is a weekly devotional with short spiritual lessons.

Nothing too heavy.

If you like to watch animated movies on YouTube, you could search for Jesus animated full movie and Bible animated full movie

First thing is first. Pray and seek God. Ask God for guidance and wisdom in his will. Try your best without laziness to strive and work on your sins.

Right now today. I took some bricks out a wall that has almost taken me over. I started building this wall back when I was 14 and now I'm 40. So yes Satan's claws and teeth were in very deep.

Always seek God and show him your choice and he will make a way for you.

We all struggle but keep holding on tight!

Everyone here has given you awesome advice so far. I would just add remember you are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. God knew what He was doing when you were born and even before so!

Continue to pray and seek Him. I take it you are pretty creative! What is it about comic books that makes them so appealing to you?

Another thing i would add is there is nothing wrong with having interests. Positive interests have a way of balancing us and keeping us focused on how God has blessed us. Youtube is a great way to listen to awesome Christian music! It also came in handy when i needed to tie my tie haha. Then, there are times it motivates me by looking up sermons, or watching Rocky montages. There's nothing wrong with any of that-as long as it's balanced.

Also, think on how you can include God and focus on Him with your interests. Why not try to make a comic book with a Godly message? When you think about it, many of them do. My point is, instead of thinking of your interests as a negative, look for ways to see and include God in them. Celebrate God with your interests. Also, thank Him that you can enjoy the things He's blessed you with. Hopefully, this helps.

For me I enjoy reading comics because you can see the art and the writing that makes comics interesting. My dream job is to try to create a superhero in mainstream comics who isn't afraid to say that he or she is Christian. However, because of the world we live in I imagine this dream is next to impossible but hey all things are possible through Christ right ;)

I couldn't get anywhere studying the bible, until I started the NIV bible, and now I've got a MP3 player that only has the bible on it, I listen to it about 2 to 4 hours a day, walking, going to a coffee shop, and also here are some bible verses that talk about studying the bible, I hope they can help you.
Matthew chapter 4 verse 4
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Romans chapter 1 verse 28
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

John chapter 8 verse 31,32
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, " If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
2 John
9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
Job chapter 23 verse 12
I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

Matthew 11
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Luke chapter 21
33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Romans chapter 10
17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Mark chapter 13
31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
James chapter 1
25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
James chapter 4
8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Isaiah chapter 45 verse 19
I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right.
Jeremiah chapter 9
24 but let the one who boasts boast about this:
that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.
Jeremiah chapter 5 verse 1
5 “Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem,
look around and consider,
search through her squares.
If you can find but one person
who deals honestly and seeks the truth,
I will forgive this city.
