All Christians - Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Liberal, whatever - are constantly indwelt by the Holy Spirit. You don't get it by saying a special prayer, doing a special act or believing a set of special beliefs. In fact, I suspect that the Holy Spirit is that spirit that is always seeking to move us forward, to do "new things" for God, it's that Spirit that moves everyone to seek truth in themselves and in the world around them.

There are no special signs that you get when you recieve the Holy Spirit. If you are seeking to follow the way of Christ (love God, love your neighbour etc.) you already have the Spirit. Speaking in tongues etc. is nice I suppose, but the greatest gift of all is love (I Cor. 13) and if you have that then you have the Holy Spirit.

Seek peace, seek to love others, let your life be a prayer. Don't worry about periferals.

The Faith is not a question of feelings, it's a question of trust. Jesus Christ promised the Holy Spirit to his followers, He promised to be with them to the end of the world. God is faithful, whatever we people might feel. So don't worry, if you feel nothing extraordinary, trust in God's great promises and say your thanks to him.

Not true. I have heard some of the more radical people in the Pentecostal Christian movement claim that until you are given the gift of tongues, you do not have the Spirit. This is a false and dangerous statement. The Holy Spirit isn't like Santa Clause, giving gifts to everyone who asks for them. The Holy Spirit works in different ways for different people. In my opinion, if you have the Spirit, you know. (It refers to having the Spirit in the Bible, as knowing the truth.) That is all. The Spirit may not give you any noticable gifts, but the unnoticable gifts are the best ones we could recieve.
