  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think my font settings for this site have messed up my web browser font settings.
Are they saved via cookie settings? If so, have you tried clearing the cookies for this site?

Now, my font settings don't work on this site or for my web browser.
What is your monitor resolution set at?

What size is your monitor?

You're on windows?

What version?

What graphics card do you have? Any changes there recently? Drivers updated?

What browser are you using?

Wow, you sound like you could help fix this. Thanks for your help.

I don't even know how to answer all your questions. I have Windows XP. I'm using AOL and Internet Explorer 6.0. I've tried clearing everything and that hasn't helped. I reinstalled Internet Explorer 6.0 and that didn't help.

I can see text in a Tahoma font fine at CF when it's someone else's post. I can see it fine in my own preview of a post. When I look at my own post, though, the font is different and the text is in bold. For now, I've changed it to Times New Roman.

I found an article at the Microsoft site about problems with a Tahoma font. I don't know if it's relevant to my problem, though.

Just to reiterate rwl's instructions... since you made no mention of changing\replacing your graphics card recently (or other system alterations...)

tools>internet options> fonts (bottom row)----->[Fonts Property Box]-------->You have three selection boxes :

Language script : Latin based... scroll down the box to the 2nd from the bottom, it says : User Defined

Web page font : choose your preference

Plain text font : ditto above

click OK

click Apply on the Internet Properties Box, bottom right

click OK

Start Internet Explorer up again

--------------------------------------------------

For monitor resolution :

right click an open spot on the desktop

select properties

select "Settings" tab... upper right. What do you see ? 800x600 ? 1024x768 ? ...

My screen resolution is 1024 x 768.

Under 'Internet Options,' I have clicked on 'Accessibility' and made sure that none of the three 'Formatting' boxes are checked:

- Ignore colors specified on Web pages
- Ignore font styles specified on Web pages
- Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages

So why isn't the browser applying the font styles and font sizes specified on Web pages?

You know, I had that problem once before so I've been trying to mess around with my pc in an attempt to figure it out again.... unfortunately I can't... I'm so pc illiterate. Sorry. :(

I don't know if it would help, but after adjusting your settings, did you reboot your PC?

P.S. Is that Kate's pic in your icon thingie? She is so gorgeous!

OK, I'm usually using Opera. So I open this page in IE6, go to View | Text Size, change the default "Medium" setting to both "Small" and "Larger". It only affects your (KateBeckinsaleAdmirer) and rwl's previous posting here. Not mine. Your font shows New Times, mine Tahoma.

Out of curiosity, you may want to run a utility that checks for font corruption. There is a freeware program called "fifofo" in zip format over at : high-logic.com/download.html. Try running that and see if it picks up anything. Sorry, wish I could be more help. I dunno...
