Hi..

I want to get involved in my church... how do I go about doing this?

My church has over 4,000 people who attend on a regular basis, how can I make a difference and help my church?

Any suggestions? Thanks.
Hi there!

First of all, pray and ask God to show you what your talents are.... don't just jump into a program because they need help... you may not have the talent for that area of ministry.

Second, talk to (one of) the pastors, for in a church that large, there must be more than on pastor. Ask about finding your "talents" and where to put them to good use in the church.

Then go back to God in prayer and be certain that is where God wants you to be. God doesn't call people to ministries where He isn't going to equip them with the necessary talents to do the work. A minister may not take the time to assess your talents, but just send you to an area that he knows needs help....

Ask decons or the pastor if there are openings for helping out around the church. See if there is a job that you would like to do that you think no one is doing or isn't being done in a manner that you think is best and offer to help. Go to as many events that your church has planned that you can make it out to...ask if there is some way you can help at those events...the more you get involved, the more you will be requested by name as more people get to know you and see that you are eager to help.

Really, prayer is always the best first step. Ask God to open doors before you and lead you to whatever He wants you to do. If you are serious and stay in the Word, abiding in Him, He will go before you and make a way for your feet to follow. Sometimes we get impatient and want to run ahead of God and get lost just like children do in the store, but He keeps His eye on us.
There is a lot of charitable work that needs done in the world, that's for sure, and maybe you could find something there too. Even a glass of water given in the Lord's name doesn't go unnoticed or without reward.

Mr 9:41 For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward.

You have 4000 members at your Church!! WOW! That is a lot of people. Is it one of those so-called mega churches? We have one of those near cleveland, where I live, it is call "Church on the Rise." I have never been there myself but I do know several people that have, and they love it because it is a huge gathering. However, they always end up complaining about the lack of a...personal touch. Like, how is a sheppard supposed to tend to such a large flock?

Anyway, I would follow everyone elses advice, but if that doesn't work maybe you could look into doing some 'time in the trenches' on your own. Serving in a soup kitchen, or working with disabled children is always a good expierience. However, if you really really want to get involved with a church maybe you might consider looking for a smaller congregation. I'm sure one of them could really use a motivated sister such as yourself :)

Thank you again.
Know that the gift you have in your life will make a way for itself, with God.
You will be doing your gift, and people will see.
