Katholikos,
I might thinkof you as a bull in a china shop, or a booger in the sugar, but I think it was good, decent, & respectable of you to comply with John deer's request
I thought you did a decent enough job of stating the gospel, too.
Not necessary for me to retrack all these pages.Well SL, you 'accused' me of having a strawman. I asked specifically 'what' my strawman was. Thank you for responding because your charge carried no specifics.
You do realize that 99.9% of you DO in fact condemn our fellow mankind in some fashion in the name of 'faith' so until someone proves otherwise, I feel it is logical to assume that condemnation is readily available with any honest quizzing. Sometimes this condemnation comes out kicking and screaming, sometimes in blatant outright denial, but it IS there in nearly all believers and YOU know it.
Fair enough. That is a bit more informative of an answer. I also believe that salvation is a process - and the verses that you quoted are good ones. I do not believe that the gospel is a get out of hell free card either. However, one can lead others to be regenerated which is the first step in the process of salvation. One can explain to others how to become a member of the family of God.
Be baptised, and receive the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist at the Father's table. So, what would you tell someone if they want to know HOW to become "an adopted son of God" or member of the family of God?
Sections 1 and 2 of the Catechism Of The Catholic Church:What would you tell someone if they want to know WHY they should become a Christian?
This venue here is hostile to Kath
In fairness, when someone's put on a hotseat, defensiveness is common & I get the same way when in the same circumstance.
Be baptised, and receive the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist at the Father's table.
NO MAN CAN SNATCH US OUT OF THE FATHERS HAND.. Not even ouselves for we are but mere men
To tell you the truth Katholikos, most of us here are not interested in the Roman Catechism of your Denomination. Please start your own thread on that. ThanksSections 1 and 2 of the Catechism Of The Catholic Church
JDF=tell me if you know what the gospel is.
K=it's this.
JDF=that doesn't line up with my Jack Chik tract, so you're wrong.
But your broad spectrum "Catholics don't know the gospel" is an utter lie
Can you please put that in your own words briefly?Fair enough.
Be baptised, and receive the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist at the Father's table.
I think that is an acceptable answer explaining what your religion teaches.
Sections 1 and 2 of the Catechism Of The Catholic Church:
God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life.
So that this call should resound throughout the world, Christ sent forth the apostles he had chosen, commissioning them to proclaim the gospel: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age." Strengthened by this mission, the apostles "went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it.
My opinion means little to nothing in the overall scheme of things but since you ask and LLOJ requires scripture, I say we all need to do a little bit more of this
29 Jesus answered, The most important is, Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
31 The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
and a lot less questioning of whether people are "saved" or not.

So then, like I said, Catholics believe that you must adhere to their salvific rituals to be saved.
Not true.
PLEASE POST SCRIPTURES IN YOUR POSTS!! ThanksThere you have it: a Catholic declaring God's word "not true".
We believe what Jesus Christ said.
John 6:53 "So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves."
Alright guys. I must be off to get some sleep. Try not to burn anyone at the stake while I'm gone.
...Yeah, God forbid somebody should ask them a question.
I have a thread called OSAS around here. Not true. You are free to turn from God and reject him at any time
