Honest opinion: religion gets in the way sometimes, doesn't it?

While circumstances vary wildly, as human beings we have many common responses to the events that happen to us, and those that we make happen.

There are so many truths about ourselves that anyone of any faith or no faith can agree to, like the importance of knowing yourself, the value of finding people who will encourage you when you need it to fuel new ventures or just the grind of daily living, or just practical stuff like, use systems to get yourself organized. Those things are so uncontroversial, yet so potentially revolutionary.

The beauty of them is that they are true no matter what you think about gods or the supernatural. I just wonder if any of you have ever thought that maybe wondering what the inscrutable deity wants is an unnecessary distraction from the things I listed above? Thank you in advance for answering.

Those thing will never satisfy. Why would I want somthing that may eventully dissapear. I'm not trying to sound like a good christian here. I have left God several times but when I do I know there is somthing missing. We for created for God, and I know that I feel unfullfilled when I denie that purpose.

Well, the inscrutible (I disagree with this, btw) deity provides all this and more. We get all the support we need from Him and other believers and don't have to worry about being led down the garden path to the mirey clay we were pulled from! :)

I used to think that Christians were an unhappy sombre bunch - but it's not true. I've had more fun, laughed more in the past 6 years than probably any other time in my life. I love life, I love my brothers and sisters in faith and have so many more trustworthy friends than I ever had before! People who are grounded and truly care for me as I care for them. :)

A question your comment has brought to my mind: what does it matter that something might disappear, so long as you enjoy it to the fullest while you do have it?

we dont enjoy those things anymore, well at least i dont, now that i know of the things god will give me. anyway if you live life trying to satisfy your desires you will never succeed...because natural desires cannot be satisfied and then you will end up depressed.

i dont really understand your question...are you trying to say that god stops us from getting to know ourselves and the grind of daily living?

if anything, god has helped me to find and now myself and with everyday living. god knows me better then anyone else so by living with god im discovering myself.

If anything, it is a boon to seek Gods path over my own, it allows me to go beyond the limits of my own sight and mind, and seek greater answers, answers beyond myself.

As you said, some things seem so simple, so base, but if you add God to the picture, you can redefine your life, and redirect yourself, in ways you may never have thought you could.

In some ways, when I am dealing with Life, I take the time to thank God, for both my blessings and tribulations, it allows me to face things, in a better mind frame then if I only looked at one side of things.

Hope this Helps.

God Bless
