ok. How is it not relevant?

Which scripture is used to bring up the whole topic of Clement.

When he spoke about shaving, He didn't show how ignoble of gay men to shave. He said how ignoble of men to shave. Context bru.

Which scripture is he basing his arguments on? By any chance is it related to the word "malakoi"? I wonder. I just get the sneaky suspicion that malakoi is referring to men, both straight and gay.

It is your responsibility to show how your so-called evidence relates to a topic. NOT quote one word or a sentence fragment and expect someone else to show it does not.

Tell you what I will post my quotes from Clement again, then you show how your reference to shaving, etc. is relevant. Don't tell me what your "sneaky suspicion," is produce the original language.

And let us not forget these two gay websites agree that Clement condemned ALL homosexual acts.
People with a History presents the history of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people [=LGBT]. It includes hundreds of original texts, discussions, and [soon] images, and addresses LGBT history in all periods, and in all regions of the world.

Clement of Alexandria was a major early Church father. He addressed sexuality in some detail. In this chapter of his work Paidogogus, he discusses effeminate men and masculine women. He is clearly hostile. Nevertheless the passage is interesting for a number of reasons:

• Clement gives a lot of information about pathic homosexual activity.
• Although he discusses men for the most part, he includes a discussion of female homosexuality as well. There is no question that he has in mind some general notion of "homosexuality" here.
• Clement also seems to discuss lesbian marriages
.

The last two points play a major role in Bernadette Brooten's book, Love Between Women, (Chicago: 1996). Brooten argues that the marriages referred to by Clement were a real Egyptian social custom, although this is controversial. The book is required for those interested in the period.

Clement of Alexandria The Instructor. [Paedagogus.] Book III [153 - 217 AD]

The fate of the Sodomites was judgment to those who had done wrong, instruction to those who hear. The Sodomites having, through much luxury, fallen into uncleanness, practicing adultery shamelessly, and burning with insane love for boys; the All-seeing Word, whose notice those who commit impieties cannot escape, cast His eye on them. . . .Accordingly, the just punishment of the Sodomites became to men an image of the salvation which is well calculated for men.

Clement of Alexandria Exhortation To The Heathen

And what are the laws? “Thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not commit adultery; thou shalt not seduce boys; thou shalt not steal; thou shalt not bear false witness; thou shalt love the Lord thy God.” And the complements of these are those laws of reason and words of sanctity which are inscribed on men’s hearts: “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; to him who strikes thee on the cheek, present also the other;” “thou shalt not lust, for by lust alone thou hast committed adultery.”

Clement of Alexandria The Instructor [Paedagogus] Book 1

But life has reached this pitch of licentiousness through the wantonness of wickedness, and lasciviousness is diffused over the cities, having become law. Beside them women stand in the stews, offering their own flesh for hire for lewd pleasure, and boys, taught to deny their sex, act the part of women. Luxury has deranged all things; it has disgraced man. A luxurious niceness seeks everything, attempts everything, forces everything, coerces nature. Men play the part of women, and women that of men, contrary to nature; women are at once wives and husbands: [Lesbian marriage!] no passage is closed against libidinousness; [i.e. every possible body opening is used for “lechery”/“libidinousness.”] and their promiscuous lechery is a public institution, and luxury is domesticated.

Clement of Alexandria The Instructor - Pedagogos Book 3
Chapter 3
Against Men Who Embellish Themselves

Such was predicted of old, and the result is notorious: the whole earth has now become full of fornication and wickedness. I admire the ancient legislators of the Romans: these detested effeminacy of conduct; and the giving of the body to feminine purposes, contrary to the law of nature, they judged worthy of the extremest penalty, according to the righteousness of the law.

Exactly right, context.

The context is that most who are anti-gay, are closeted gays that can't accept their own true sexuality themselves...context.

So then you believe that 73% of Christians are gay then?

According to Ellison Research,73% of christianity strongly agree that homosexual activity is a sin. You can click on the attachment at the bottom of this post to see the survey results.

My post was 658 words, your meaningless reply only 6.

Prove it! You keep repeating "out of context" like a mantra, show me you know what it means and how anything I posted is out of context.

As I have said repeatedly you are in a pit of your own making even homosexual websites contradict you.

I've already elaborated on one of your links.

You conveniently quote the words " Such was predicted of old, and the result is notorious: the whole earth has now become full of fornication and wickedness. I admire the ancient legislators of the Romans: these detested effeminacy of conduct; and the giving of the body to feminine purposes, contrary to the law of nature, they judged worthy of the extremest penalty, according to the righteousness of the law." but ignore the entire discussion before that, never mind the words directly after. "For it is not lawful to pluck out the beard"

The entire passage starts off "to such an extent, then, has luxury advanced, that not only are the female sex deranged about this frivolous pursuit, but men also are infected with the disease." Homosexuals?

He then proceeds to mock hair salons " For their service the towns are full of those who take out hair by pitch-plasters, shave, and pluck out hairs from these womanish creatures. " oh, the disgrace, then further quote somebody mocking the workers at the hair salon. "Diogenes, when he was being sold, chiding like a teacher one of these degenerate creatures, said very manfully, “Come, youngster, buy for yourself a man,” chastising his meretriciousness by an ambiguous speech. But for those who are men to shave and smooth themselves, how ignoble! ".

He then says they are in sin for dying their hair because God planned them to go grey.

"“And none other,” says the Lord, “can make the hair white or black.”
How, then, do these godless ones work in rivalry with God, or rather violently oppose Him, when they transmute the hair made white by Him? “The crown of old men is great Scripture; and the hoary hair of their countenance is the blossom of large experience. But these dishonour the reverence of age, the head covered with grey hairs. It is not, it is not possible for him to show the head true who has a fraudulent head. “But ye have not so learned Christ; if so be that ye have heard Him, and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off, concerning the former conversation, the old man (not the hoary man, but him that is) corrupt according to deceitful lusts; and be renewed (not by dyeings and ornaments), but in the spirit of your mind; and put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”"

Keeping in mind the above, and what the entire book is about, the following can only apply to peope that make idols of themselves, committing adultery against nature by attempting to go against God's plans of growing old.

"Luxury has deranged all things; it has disgraced man. A luxurious niceness seeks everything, attempts everything, forces everything, coerces nature. Men play the part of women, and women that of men, contrary to nature; women are at once wives and husbands: no passage is closed against libidinousness; and their promiscuous lechery is a public institution, and luxury is domesticated. O miserable spectacle! horrible conduct! Such are the trophies of your social licentiousness which are exhibited: the evidence of these deeds are the prostitutes. Alas for such wickedness! Besides, the wretches know not how many tragedies the uncertainty of intercourse produces. For fathers, unmindful of children of theirs that have been exposed, often without their knowledge, have intercourse with a son that has debauched himself, and daughters that are prostitutes; and licence in lust shows them to be the men that have begotten them. These things your wise laws allow: people may sin legally; and the execrable indulgence in pleasure they call a thing indifferent. They who commit adultery against nature think themselves free from adultery. Avenging justice follows their audacious deeds, and, dragging on themselves inevitable calamity, they purchase death for a small sum of money. The miserable dealers in these wares sail, bringing a cargo of fornication, like wine or oil; and others, far more wretched, traffic in pleasures as they do in bread and sauce, not heeding the words of Moses, “Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a harlot, lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.”
"

Granted, he refers to sexual immorality, referring to men and boys, and women prostitutes, because they are decking themselves out in this way in order to appeal to their customers. But in now ways possible does he refer to a loving monogamous homosexual relationship.

I am aware of the secret book of Mark. I don't have any opinions on it other than that it can be discredited because there is uncertainty of the origin of it.

If every body "here" knows, understands and accepts that, then why are all of these debates about this coveted and blatant sin, that is being forced down the throats of society to conform and affirm, continually taking place in a Christians Only forum?

I could understand it in a non-Christian forum, that there would be such debates, but not in a Christians Only forum, where all are professed followers of Christ.

What are you trying to say? I am pretty sure everyone here knows that.

Hi David,

Yes, I know what you meant, that is why I asked,
"If every body "here" knows, understands and accepts that, then why are all of these debates about this coveted and blatant sin, that is being forced down the throats of society to conform and affirm, continually taking place in a Christians Only forum?

I can't post the website b/c it doesn't allow me too since I'm new here, but go to www . cnn . com/living for the entire article.

Seems to be the week for news regarding homosexuality. CNN Top Story tonite reporting...First time in 10 years, the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF AMERICANS (56%) believe that gays and lesbians could not change their sexual orientation even if they wanted to do so -- the first time that a majority has held that belief regarding homosexuality since CNN first posed the question nearly 10 years ago.

For the Rev. Mel White, the founder and president of faith-based gay rights group Soulforce, the poll results were a "tremendous relief."
"The poll is such good news," White said Thursday. "Over half of America thinks we don't have to be healed from a sickness; suddenly we are OK as we are."
White, once a ghostwriter for the Revs. Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and Billy Graham before coming out in a public sermon in 1993, said the church was the barrier to nationwide acceptance of gays and lesbians.
"Until the church changes, this debate will go on and on and on," he said. "Once the church changes, it'll be over."
But for organizations that say gays and lesbians can become straight, the poll results were discouraging.

..and of course, there was "Focus on the Family" (the most ANTI family organization there is) saying somthing as cowardly as .... "people are unfortuantely believing the myth they are hearing"...how offensive and dispicable.....

How very sad it is that some christian organizations are the ones out to fight this. To "deliver" or to "heal" or "Cure" something as if it were a disease or sickness..and those too are falling to the waist side. Thanks to faith based groups like Soulforce, and major denominations like the UCC, it will only be a matter of time before others follow suit. Sure, there is nothing wrong with teaching abstinence and celibacy, however, to force someone to CHANGE is wrong, and as Christians, it is a very sad day that we as a community can not accept people for who they are. It's changing, so with some ex-gay leaders coming out earlier this week saying it is wrong to force change, and they were sorry for forcing people to do so when they know it can't be done, and now this...things are looking brighter. Gay or straight shouldn't matter...we are all in this together. One should not make some change in order to be accepted, it's not christian like and it's wrong.
