Being of the "30 minute meals" or "Semi-Homemade" mindset, I don't make much truly from scratch.

I get raves on my brownies - I take a mix, add a little vanilla, some dutch cocoa and chocolate chips - frost with chocolate ganache. OK, so they're a chocolate overdose, but they're the best brownies ever.

We love soups - but I get lots of help from boxed stocks as the base. V-8 makes a good base for vegetable soups or chili too. I used canned beans too (my mom would be so disappointed, she always soaked dried beans overnight for her soups). Throw everything in a crockpot - let simmer while I'm at work, tastes as good as the homemade stuff my mom made.

Great thread - I do enjoy cooking and love to get new recipes.

This was sweet of you, sis chickapee. Thank you. :)
I like homemade food, and in the Winter I think many of us appreciate nice and cozy evenings at home with homebaked goodies and hot cocoa and things that warm us up like for instance chili. I made chili a couple of days ago and it was nice and a bit spicy. I baked blueberry muffins a few days ago and brought them with me to work, and people there appreciated them very much. It is nice to surprise people with homebaked little treats. I made a big omelette for lunch today for my hubby and I before I had to leave and go to a several-hours-meeting. A little chopped onion and just a little chopped celery (a spoonful or so) that I sauteèd, a couple of slices of smoked ham, some slices of cheese ... and of course eggs; 6 eggs and a little milk and salt ... and that ''mix'' became a delicious omelette, lol. :) There was a nice dinner buffet at the meeting I attended today, and we all ate well. Very good food indeed. :)

A friend from work just shared that vanilla secret with me. Another suggestion she had for french toast batter - she uses egg nog instead of milk or cream with her eggs. Next time I make french toast at home I'm going to try her recipe. I always put a little cinnamon sugar in my batter, but that's the only extra I add (at least for now).

mmmm Bologna

a slice of bologna ( maybe garlic bologna depends on how well it sets in the stomach)

potatoe chips (prefeably syferts red bag as the taste does change with different chips)

on a piece of bread place the bologna and a handfull of potatoe chips. place top piece of bread and mash down. if prefered add more potatoe chips and repeat.
remove top bread and add ketchup. mash top bread again. romove top bread pulling top layer of potatoe chips with ketchup away. add more ketchup. mash again. if desired remove bottom bread add prefered mayo (for this i tend to prefer the real).

bbq sauce can be a substatute for ketchup. this whole thing may cause indegestion.

through my life this is the one thing i would actually crave from time to time.:)
