We-Energy and Lily-are brother and sister in Shanghai of China. We love each other and want to merry. But we should buy a home for love or marriage. I got an idea of selling "future" accommodation service to earn "present" money. But I am afraid introducing the idea is forbiden in CF. How can I do? Brothers and Sisters? Or have you got any idea to earn an apartment for marriage?
By the way, Lily doesn't know my plan now, I want to give her a surprise.

I am now working for the south-south PPD, which is engaging in improving the population and develipment of south countries. Though the work is meaningful, the salary is low. So I should earn money in leisure time for the home for love.

LOL! I think that was figurative, not literal.

What you need to think of is where you would live if you got married and how long that would set you back to buying a house. Meaning, if you spend your money on renting a place, how much longer would it take to buy a house of your own? Not that renting is a bad way to start, it's really all personal preference.

I agree with you that renting is a way to start, but her parents are locals and think the daughter should marry a man owned real estate. That is the local culture. Though we've got freedom to marry or not, we won't hurt her parents' feeling.

I think the problem with this is that times change. When her parents were young, apartments would have been much cheaper. I imagine that apartments in large Chinese cities are quite expensive - I have never been there myself. Her parents may have to change their views on it if it is very difficult for young people to buy property these days.

I do not know what you mean by selling "future" accommodation to earn "present" money, is that a common practice in China or just something you have thought up? I'm not sure who would be interested in buying future rental accommodation like that, they could just buy an apartment themselves.

China has a very traditional culture, and I really do respect your desire to honour her parents opinion in this matter. This is a good thing. But her parents opinion may be outdated, if the property market has changed too much. Could your or her parents help you into buying an apartment? Maybe you could openly and honestly discuss your financial situation with her father, do some budgets with him, and let him help you work out whether you would be able to financially survive renting, or maybe work out a plan to save for a house. He would probably be impressed that you respect his opinion enough to ask his advice and see what he would recommend.

See if they can give you advice and if they are willing to give you their blessing to go fourth with the wedding knowing that you have a plan and a goal.

Hi, I totally agree with you. But there is a special culture in Shanghai-the most properous city in China. Because the real estate is very expensive. So the parents won't want their daughter marry a young man without an apartment. I don't know if I have explained clearly.

Most importantly, It is a win-win exchange. Friends who help me now, I will reward them in the future. For me, I got a home for love, a surprise for girlfriend and make a friend in another corner of the world. And the purchaser got cheap accommodation service and also make a chinese friend and easy-going.

Are you talking about rent? I talked to my Chinese friends and they said an apartment in Shanghai wouldn't cost that sort of money, unless it was a luxury apartment. But if you're talking about years and years worth of rent, my friend said that would be enough money to rent a three bedroom apartment for at least twenty years.

Remember that it might take quite a while to get the money to buy the apartment using this method, so he is probably estimating high to allow for inflation in the meantime. Have you checked the website? Explains it very well.
