  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi friends:wave:

Its good when everyone get a chance to share and not just one man from the pulpit.

The bible says that everyone has something to give in the meeting:

1 Corinthians 14:26 NIV
What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.

Praise the Lord for house churches.

When I was in college, I attend a home bible study group, and looking back, it was a valuable part of my spiritual growth, and especially keeping me involved in the Christian community, keeping me accountable, and providing needed support in my Christian walk.
Later on, in my late 20's, I again got involved in a home bible study group. Again... very valuable for a lot of the same reasons.
Now, I'm 45, and our church is venturing into this new (for them) territory. I became a part of the Small Group Committee to give some leadership-from-experience, as they got this ministry started. For now, because of my busy schedule, I'll be attending one of the groups, but not leading one. Maybe later.
I really do believe in the value of Small Group Home Bible Studies. There are a lot of materials out there to help groups to get organized, and even to inprove their effectiveness.

I was attending one. It was much more fruitful and worthy than any church service. We would pray before and after. We dedicated most of an hour to our studies. However, I found upon some of my own self studies that some of what was taught was not accurate. The teacher was using the same study materials we were. I finally just quit going.

I liked mine better than church because we would sit down in a quiet setting and visit a little before getting started because several of us would come a bit early. We would pray at the beginning and then read a chapter and go through it verse by verse. As I said, we spent most of the hour studying without all the music and whatnot. Usually in church I'm lucky if I hear a 20 minute sermon. This way we were getting into the word and studying it closely and discussing it afterwords. Then we would pray some more and then visit some more. It had that fellowship feel to it. We learned more. Church just isn't the same.

why do you guys like it ?

Because the one I help out at is based in grace, you are expected to fail at trying and when you do there's grace for you and love. Instead of shunning trying to things or moving in the gifts of the spirit we encourage it. It's like the homegroup is a place to refine, learn, and teach the gifts God has given you so that you are prepared to use them in the world. I'm also very turned off to a large church setting for anything other than corporate worhsip. But generally I find that the smaller settings are more personal, and more loving.

More loving is the key there Sleaker. Church just isn't.

Yah, except I think we have our mental picture of what church is all wrong. And it'll take a long time and a lot of effort to change the idea of church being a building or an institution to an organism called the Body of Christ :o

More love all around please! I need lots :)

i attend one and participate, but don't lead. it's an amazing gift to be able to fellowship in a small group and dig deeper and more personally then any pastor can do on a sunday morning.

I dont think its specifically anything to do with that. I have attended a home fellowship where its was all programmed, song, prayer, study, prayer out after an hour. There are also church services that can go very deep. Its all the people you are meeting with, do they want a ritual or for the Holy SPirit to operate?

:sorry:

I regularly attend a group and am intern, so I lead when our leaders are not there. Really rather challenging. Then again God will never ask of you if He doesn't / hasn't equipped you.

Yes God wont but man will:wave:
