  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought you meant holidays as in going away on holiday.

I am not a big fan of the public holidays. They just aren't the same once you are an adult.

I'm sorry I didn't explain it. I forgot that holiday in the USA means something totally different than in Australia (i had a friend there and holidays to her was like taking time off from school).

Not a big fan of public holidays? Well, I think they should make t.v. programs about the origins of the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. For christmas, every child worries more about *getting* a gift rather than *giving*. I'm guilty of that as a child too.

Hey guys, I hope this isn't off topic (is there a topic?) anyway I was just wondering if you all are excited about the upcoming holidays...? I am. I think my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.

Christmas! Christmas!!! I've been looking forward to this Christmas since LAST christmas :D

I love Christmas. I go nuts decorating and buying gifts :)

I hate Halloween and cant' wait until it's over. I never feel like I can truly look forward to christmas properly until it's gone.

Thanksgiving for Canadians is also in October. It's... ok... but this year I doubt we'll be having any kind of real thanksgiving, so I'm not realy looking forward to it.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to a big one on October 31... no, Not Halloween, not All Souls Day... Reformation Day. The Day Martin Luther nailed the 95 Thesis to the Church in Wittenberg, Germany....
Also, looking forward to Thanksgiving and Spending time with Family and my favoriate Fowl I like consuming... Turkey....

And Christmas... not because of what I'll get... but because of what we Got ~2008 years ago... Our Sin Savior.... and I'll buy presents for my 3 Nephews and my little Niece who'll be maybe 2 1/2 months (depends on when she actually enters this world...)

I am looking forward to them all, honestly. Halloween is always fun, and it is my first Halloween at college so that will probably make it more interesting! I'm excited for Thanksgiving also. I love spending the day with family, helping to cook good food, seeing my sister for the first time since August, etc.

My FAVORITE holiday is definitely Christmas though! It isn't because of the gifts I receive. I love giving gifts that I know people will appreciate. I love the time spent connecting with friends and family. I love the snow, snuggled infront of a fire with a cup of hot cocoa or a latte or something like that. I am in LOVE with the music, too! I love Christmas carols -- both traditional and secular. I love baking cookies, whether I eat them or if I give them to a homeless shelter. I love visiting nursing homes during this time, shelters, etc. The fact that it is when we celebreate Christ's birth is also wonderful, because everyone seems so much more united during Christmas. The whole atmosphere and positive nature of the holiday just implies utmost...perfection!

i agree on the gift giving, i've already gotten started on my shopping. I actually surprised myself by getting my mom's present first because she's usually the hardest one to shop for haha.

i already know what i wanna get my dad. my brother and boyfriend are going to be harder to shop for though because they're both the kind of people who when they want something and they have the money they just go ahead and get it  :p

but yeah Christmas is by far the most amazing time of year :D

I am excited about Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I am sad at the same time because I don't know if my fiance and I will get to see each other on either, because he's going to be going to school in San Antonio and I will be here in OK. If he leaves in the next week or two we could be together on Christmas if he's not gone training. So I don't know... I am happy but I wish we could be together and have our place together by Christmas.
