Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

God gave us the inteligence to think, does that mean that man can use this Intellegence to come up with new medical procedures such as stem cell reaserch and use the excuse of: "if god didnt want us to do this then he wouldnt have given us the ability to reason and think"? I disagree I think that god gave us free will after we sinned in the garden of eden.. My question for you is can man hide behind the intelligence that god gave us in a effort to condone different acts?......
THANKS!

Well in truth there is stem cell research which involves taking stem cells from adults and there is nothing wrong with this (it's no different than a organ transplant) so we have the intelligence to do good works without taking life.

Possessing intelligence, however, is not an excuse. Having the ability to do something is what makes us human. Choosing not to do something is what makes us moral.

BLESSEDBETHEMEEK: Perhaps you could help me understand your post, by clarifying a couple of points?

WE sinned? Were you there? Did you see me there? Am I Adam? A cursory inspection indicates that I am not Eve.

And if "we" didn't get free will, until after "we" sinned, then how could "we" have sinned? If you don't have free will, how can you sin?

Iron Sun 254: Most of the uncertainty would seem to be over just what God's will really is. If your holy book says we should kill homosexuals*, is it God's will? Ought I to do it even if my own conscience, and the law tell me that it is wrong?

*Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

1) I wasnt there to see that we sinned yet i have FAITH in GOD that we did asthe scripture says so
theres a flip side to this coin were YOU there? did you see me there? are we not all descendents of adam and eve?

2) Adam and eve were tempted by statan to eat the forbidden fruit and thus we sinned and gained free will. this is in accordance of the scripture.

Stem cell research is highly important. I don't think its right to use religion as a weapon with which to unnecessarily smash scientific obligations.
I presume that I'm right in thinking that the radical neo conservatives of america are opposed to stem cell research. And President Bush is apparently opposed to it. This is ridiculous. Stem cell research and other bold scientific research needs to be given strong support so that people can benefit from its positive outcomes.

I Voted for Bush but I think that since GOD gave us the intellect we need to use it for good,
I do support stem cell research as It save lives and could help to reduce the suffering in the world. I think God would approve if it helps to prevents pain, suffering, and the loss of life, there are other ways to get stem cells than by Abortion alone.

This is getting perilously close to an argument that's not even allowed in politics. I think (if I recall correctly) that it's only allowed in the morality forum, but don't quote me on that. Anyway, no violations yet, but please drop the discussion of abortion and embryonic stem cell research. I won't let a positive thread like this be sidetracked by emotional responses on either side.

I think that the example used in the OP was a bad example because of all the debate it tends to generate. The principle on the other hand is clear.

God gave mankind free will for good or evil. It could be argued that one of the greatest developments in the last 100 years has been that of nucular power. Potentially, it could bring great benefits to mankind. Conversely, it could destroy mankind along with the rest of the world. It is for man to choose his way in life, but he cannot use God as an exuse for his choice, nor later blame Him for the results.

I think a christian can use all that is possible to help a friend...(with the medicine also as made the samaritan) without to be against the christian life because a methodology can make to sin more...........
An example:
if a medicine is for the immortality what would happen?.............
I think it's not for a christian life............

I dont think stem research is bad, but it takes one direction. It is just research. I have not heard of any other paths that would lead to the same result. Are their any scientists who believe that it can be accomplished without useing fetal tissue? If so then they should be supported. Stem research right now is like the evolution theory "there is no other way". I think it is wrong.

We can't hide behind our intelligence for many reasons. GOd gave us our intelligence to ultimately glorify Him. Anything that we do using our intelligence that dishonors God is sin. SO either we glorify God with what He gave us, or we can dishonor him through our actions brought about by our "great intelligence".
