Most adults don't like hip-hop cause they think it's effecting the way we live and carry ourselves but I only agree half of the way because if you believe the stuff

??? my dad dosn't like it becuase it reflects the same sound as "bad" or secular rap. usualy if i show and proove what they stand for is good then he will relax about it. POD he hated untill i showed a video of them talking about what they stand for.

im not a fan of hip hop but i do struggle to see how people could have a problem with christian hip hop. just because they're using a style of music which is associated with drug and gang glorification.
end of the day christian hip hop is glorifying God so if people have problem with it i think its more that they're prejudice against the style or ignorant of the lyrics.
if your talking about secular hip hop i think thats a differant issue. it's not exactly the best thing to be listening to. too much swearing, drug reference, gun loving and self glorifying for my liking. not exactly christian morals.

of course it might just not be their thing - they may like to ROCK  !!!

P.S. i've been loving the word glorifying or any variation :)

Guys, if ya'll don't think music affects you, think again. I know for a fact that it does. I am not ignorant of the lyrics, but I just want to say this: If someone put a cup of water in front of you, then put poison in the water, would you drink it? In the same way, good Christian words put to bad music is the same way; it contaminates the whole thing. Trust me, if you heard what some of these "Christian" Rock bands really do and say while they're singing, you might change your mind. Oh, and as to "steverock"'s post, (don't get me wrong here, I just am seeming to come across wrong on here.) Music that's associated with drug and gang glorification, regardless of the words, is wrong. Trust me on this, I've heard about things from reliable sources that even if the words are good, and the music is questionable, it will still do very strange things to you. BTW How many of ya'll think Rock music is addictive?

joel,

how is a style of music going to affect you negatively if the lyrics being sung/rapped are praising God?
what's your reliable source and what do they use to back up what they say?
what will the music do to you even with God prasing lyrics in there?

ROCK IS THE BEST MUSIC EVER  !
wouldn't say its addictive it just makes you realise the amount of rubbish music out there in the forms of boy bands, garage, trance and basically generic manufactured pop.
rock bands have real instruments, real singing and they write their own songs!!! LOVELY STUFF :D

It's unbelievable how the "christian rap/christian rock is wrong" thing has split the body of Christ. I'm a 40 year old "african american" who has listened to Every type of heavy metal, Rap, R&B, Jazz, and yes, even boy bands...BEFORE I was saved. During that same period of time, I have never, ever smoked a joint, raped anyone, robbed anyone, sacrificed an animal, held a seance, etc. If music does effect people, IMO, it's because they already have the tendency within them to do whatever wacked out thing they did. Music being used as a scapegoat is another trick from Satan. Now, I do understand that Secular rap, generally speaking, has a "me first" mentality. The same with most other secular music. The difference is, the profanity. The profanity is what makes it so much worse than music with none, even though the message in the non-profane song could be more emotionally and spiritually damaging. I believe God has provided his children with suitable alternatives to Busta Rhymes and DMX, and I believe we should glorify him for that. If YOU don't like rap, then don't listen to it. If YOU don't like Rock, then don't listen to it. listen to what edifies you. Remember, we are Parts of the Body of Christ. We all won't like the same things, do the same things, or say the same things. But as long as we are about the same mission, it's gravy....amen?

BTW, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and DIO were my favorite Metal bands in the early 80's, considered highly satanic bands by many. Thank God there are Christian alternatives today. Who did we have back then? Stryper? someone name me five "good" christian rock groups from the early 90's....

Satan is using the oldest trick in the book on us...divide and conquer....

music isnt just about the lyrics. for me, theres no way i could feel like im praising and meditatating on God if "God-words" were put into nine-inch-nails or metallica songs. thats rubbish.. its the same as saying that true christianity has to match your head AND your heart- the lyrics and music are interrelated and both dependant on each other.

heavy metal / rock music just makes me angry..
but each to their own.... God is as individual in my experience as he is in yours..and for me? i listen mostly to hymns, classical and some contemporary stuff, not generally contemporary worship...but thats just me & if the guy next to me focuses on God and his goodness through hip-hop..go for gold..
you cant put one style of music in a box and say that its "evil". that is why half the world think that Christians dont know anything about anything...

So true. Music that you listen to does affect how you feel and how you act...but it's not like hip hop and rap have this "mind-controling effect" or anything. All music has the chance to speak into your life and change you, whether it be good or bad.
