Hillsong loves Catholics.

As many of you probably know, Hillsong is a Church but also a source of popular Christian music. They've always been sort of associated with prosperity doctrine, Joyce Meyers, Joel Osteen and the whole liberal evangelical movement.

I've always tried to avoid it when my sister plays their stuff, just because I associated it with Non-Catholicness. But I just found out that they collaborated and performed at World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney Australia (despite criticism from those funny King James people ;)).

Check out there music, some of it's really great.

It always makes be chuckle when I watch EWTN, especially life on the rock and see catholic youth and young adults singing many modern contempory Christian worship songs which is straight out of prot worship services. It's great because the music and lyrics glorify Jesus.

Isn't it awesome when C's and prots can actually bless each other with their love for Jesus instead of tearing each other down?

While there is nothing wrong with the lyrics of many Hillsong songs, and some of the tunes are even quite catchy, some of their stuff is just awful. I know, I grew up with a staple diet of Hillsong and Hillsong inspired music.

Bring back Gregorian chant I say

Blessings,
:prayer:

I agree with you! We have a very large collection of contemporary Christian music, most of which I have NO problems with as a Catholic. Having been Protestant until this past January, we also have a large collection of Protestant hymns, most of which should really not bother any Catholic. I have been so surprised to find the number of hymns sung in our Catholic Church that use the melody of a Protestant hymn, but have changed the lyrics. To be honest, most of the time I find the Protestant lyrics so much more meaningful, but I guess they had to be changed so the hymn wouldn't be Protestant. It's so sad that we often can't even agree on beautiful worship music.

Don't get me wrong! Gregorian chant is much better than pop'n'bop music, but it makes some awesome background/study music. :)

heh, my older sister is a big big evangelical. I don't have the luxury of not hearing her. <_<

I love Hillsong's music. I listen to them on my mp3 player all the time. Hosanna is a favorite of mine too. :)

hehe yep. Have you heard "lead me to the cross" ? I used to listen to that while walking to school. It's another awesome song.

i have heard some of their music, i did not know they were a church
Yep, I think they're based in Australia.

Hillsong is the biggest Assemblies of GOd church here in Australia. They started in the Adelaide HIlls (hence the name) and have expanded throughout Australia. Their Adelaide church has 17 000 members - Sydney isn't that big yet.

I saw them live at World Youth Day (funny, I just changed my WYD SYD avatar!) and they were great. If anyone wants any of their stuff and are having trouble finding it in the US, have a look at this Australian site: Koorong: Hillsong Store

I like Lenny Leblanc.

My wife Gail and myself listen to his CD's while driving in the car.

I wouldn't use that music at Mass, though, for it tends to make you want to get up and line dance. :D

Hehe, yeah I'm very conservative concerning Mass, plus I'm not a very good singer so I probably wouldn't play this outside of my bedroom. ^_^

I think I need to start listening to some Christian music. I was at the Gym the other day; listening to some old Notorious BIG and Snoop Dog. I love the beat, but the lyrics are filthy.

I also Love Rock, but the Christian singers all sound so generic. I did like Bob Dylan when he went through his Christian faze.

I do Love Gregorian Chant, does anyone know any good Gregorian chant sounds I can download ? I listen, but I am unsure how to discern the quality of the music genre.
