  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I bracket verses in pen. I also write in the margins. I tend to not use highlighter because it usually shows through to the other page.

I use a special highlighter for Bibles. It doesn't show through. It is more like a light crayon in pencil form than a real highlighter. :holy:

i use pen and the dry crayon type hiliters. also make notes and write in references. it makes it more precious as time goes by.

I use pencil, in case I change the wording...as time goes by it seems words can be inadequate on first study, and then I think of the right one later one. Then I can change it.

I use pencil because it isn't all that distracting, but can find verses when needed. However my husband won't mark in his at all, I think everyone has different ways of study.
In Him

Same here, about the pencil. My hubbie won't mark in his either. Perhaps they can remember everything to take note of? My memory is too poor.

Hey Sapphyre,

I'm one of those 'won't mark their Bible's' guys. I haven't thought about it too much, but I have a few reasons for it. One, I don't know, I kinda feel the Bible is a pretty special text, so I feel strange writing on it (don't know why; most people I know write on their Bibles). Second thing, I find that when there are notes, you tend to skip over verses I guess, or make assumptions about the meaning of verses. I think we all go through a bit of a 'journey' in understand the Bible, and can change our mind about different issues. I know if I highlighted my Bible, there'd be about as many crossed out writing than actual notes! I guess it just helps meto start with a clean slate when I read, can get something more from the same verse :)

Peace,
Alchemist

P.S. My memory isn't the best either! I will usually take notes in a notebook if I am planning to take notes in a sermon.

Ive found after 4 years in advanced math (no dont worry im staying on topic ;)) ive learned im a very visual learner.Geometry was always my best fiels becuase i could see what i was talking about. i need to be able to understand by what i see. I highlight, underline, squiggly line, write in margins, put bookmarks, write in notebooks, shove notes in the pages whatever i have to do to mine, I have a few bibles i use for study... my nkjv is the one with all the additional stuff , but i like to use atleast two translations, my pink bible i would NEVER write in!! hehe.

I remember so much just by the color and mood and understanding i was in. I can think of a verse, then flick through the pages and find it very quickly because ill remember what book it was in and the color. i am not hesitant to mark out my nkjv because it works for me, and i am most comfortable with it.

I have come to the issue of thinking i know all i can by studying and writing straight into it, and overcome that very quickly, just by allowing God to reveal it to me by rereading it, and humbling myself first, reminding myself i know nothing :)
