• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello. I have a chronic skin disease, Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). I get multiple, large boils on my body that are very painful and hard to manage. I have been treated for these boils for 22 years, since I was 14. My official diagnosis came about five years ago. My problem is my family refuses to read any literature about my disorder. I've left hundreds of pages of material for them to look at, but they refuse to look at it. Instead, they insist I made up the disease, and I'm not sick. They insist I'm not sick even though they've seen the boils on my body, the surgery scars, and they even took me to the doctor for this condition as a youth. My mother even goes as far as telling people that I probably caught an STD and I'm dirty! Does anyone else have family that refuses to accept their illness? If so, how do you deal with it?

I dont have such a family, because i have little family to start with. However, you just reminded me of Job, in teh Holy Bible, who God allowed to experience alort of disasters, including skin ulcers. His friends almost forsook him and actually gave him hardtime. So, rather than dismissing his disease, they told him that it was his fault and that it was God's punishment. He was patient through all of this and finally God rewarded him and gave him more than what he started with. Your family may not accept that you have a genuine condition, but the Lord Jesus accepts. There is a verse in Proverbs that says "The king's heart is in the hands of the Lord like the rivers of water, He turns it whereever He wishes". It basically means that the heart or feelings of a person are all controlled by God and He alone can change a person's feelings. So God can change your family to feel for your condition and believe what you are going through. Do not loose heart, and keep praying for your family, not to accept it but rather ti have a soft heart than can feel the sufferings of others and empathise with them like our Lord Christ used to do with those around Him. May God give you patience and improved health.
