Here is Genesis 1:1 in English: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
Sadly, that is all you can get from that verse in English. Here is that same verse in the original Hebrew:
"בְּרֵאשִׁית בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים אֵת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֵת הָאָרֶץ"
For those who don't read Hebrew, it says "Bereshit bara Elohim et hashamayim ve'et ha'aratz."
As verses are man-made additions to the Bible for easier navigation, I will refer to this sentence as the first sentence rather than the first verse. In this first sentence, or complete thought, there are exactly 7 words, a number of completion. Unless you read it in Hebrew, you would never know that.
The word "et" has no translation in English. However, it is formed using the letters "alef" and "tav." Those are the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet. This will allow you to get these two meanings which exist beyond the literary meaning:
1. In the beginning, God created all: the heavens and the earth.
2. In the beginning, God, the First and the Last, created the heavens and the earth.
Studying Hebrew will allow you to come to a much better knowledge of God and the Bible. Do not think for one second that God is only capable of inspiring concepts. He is able to, and has inspired every Hebrew letter of the Bible. English Bibles should be read with Hebrew ones, not instead of them.
