• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

 I just joined and I though that I should introduce myself before 'jumping in' and posting on threads! My name is Jessica & my 5 year old son, Brian, is HFA, he sure is a joy and a handful all at the same time. Right now, he is labeled High Functioning, but as 4 psychologists have told us, it's obvious he's an 'aspie' from his obsession with football and avoidance of social situations, to his complete lack of tact... *lol* ;)

It really is nice to have a forum where I can discuss these issues, up to this point it has been my son's teachers and my pastors wife (they have a 7 yo HFA son)

Welcome...

I have AS and love to help parents and others with AS and HFA. Dr Tony Attwood (an international leader in the autism field...in particular in AS) has said that HFA and AS are the same thing...the only difference is that HFA starts out "lower" on the spectrum or has the speech impairment early on in life... otherwise the terms are generally used interchangeably... In fact Dr Attwood suggests in one of his DVDs to us AS when wanting to keep the stigma of Autism out of the situation and HFA when dealing with Insurance Issues and Laws... so I do...

Please feel free to ask away... I have also written up a stickie at the top of this forum with quite a bit of information that you might find useful.
