• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

What a beauitful Novel.. you know what makes me the saddest, and I hope God will get it through it.. is time loss. Time in a fog.. Time of peace in life when your sobber. Time in age.. wishing I had done it years ago. Time lost at family functions "drunk" or somewhat. Time in general when drinking! Sad so Sad! Funny I even thought all of this when I drank, but kept right on drinking. More time lost.

Thank you for referring me to celebrate recovery; I had heard of it and I just looked it up and there is a meeting in my area. I had also heard of Alcoholics Victorious also a Christian based recovery program. I have just been going to AA but I would like to try a more Christian based program as well. Thank You again.

I didnt know either that Celebrate recovery was started by Rick Warren of 'Purpose Driven Life' fame. I also saw there is a new Celebrate Recovery study Bible that looks really good.

Welcome !!! You will like it here.. Lots of great people,, Congrads on the 69 days that is great!! I am on day 8 going for 9.. Even poured my Husband a drink last night and did not want one.. It smelled.. You know I was reading a book.. And it says we have to aquire a taste for booze. Actully we don't like it at first and that is why with mix drinks we have to cover up the taste with nice tasting things.. When I was mixing my H a drink I thought how awful it smelled.. It really is gross when you think about it..
God Bless, and once again Welcome!!!!!

Welcome Marty and Darryl! Glad that you found this great place.

I liked your novel Norm. I needed a good cry this morning - gets the toxins out. Hey, whatever happened with your attempt to get back into the military?

I have a bit of advice this morning for people starting the process of recovery. Keep a journal. You don't have to write in it every day, or write anything in particular. But find a notebook that you can dedicate as your recovery journal. I wrote "My life now" on the front of mine so I know which one it is right away (I'm in college and have several notebooks going, lol).

Seriously, this journal has saved me so many times in the nine months I've been sober. Sometimes I feel good and think of celebrating, sometimes I'm sad and need a mini-vacation - all these times my first thought is to have a drink. So I have to go through my mantras; "I just won't drink today", "If I drink, I could lose myself forever this time", and I think about H.A.L.T. This is usually while I'm driving somewhere and considering a stop at the liquor store. Then, when I get home, I look at my journal to remind myself about how bad it was. That usually does it for me. You can't let your guard down, ever. Having safety nets in place is critical.

Sorry to preach. I'm done now. Hopefully I've said something helpful for someone. My name is Monica and I'm an alcoholic. God bless.

KANGA!!!!!!

Hey you!! its been a while!

howyadoin? you been missed 'round here. 9 months now! wow! I remember when you first posted here.

this is so cool to see you posting and know your doin good.

hey guess what? I went and got saved since the last time you posted here! aint that somethin?

I so endorce your suggestion about journals. It helps us I think in our walk in recovery, when there is a bump in the road, you can go back and read how you got over it before. See the progress over time. the strength gained, the inward growth and confidence.

On my computer, I have photos of me when I was at my worse and now and I keep them for my viewing and my reminder.

Monica - you can come and preach sobreity here any time you want!

it is good to "see" you again.

Hi, My name is Norm, a very happy recovering alcoholic!
