I just wanted to say a quick hi to everyone. I mainly joined this Large Grand Central Station Site to talk about depression, to hopefully be a blessing to other people suffering from it, and maybe even "git" something once in awhile
I've struggled with depression since age 8 but didn't realize it until age 33. That was quite a thing to have hanging on me and not even know what was wrong. I'm now 41, and the Lord seems to be bringing me step by step into the light, into "the land of the living," like the bible says.
I seem to have a combination of factors: S.A.D., aggravation from asthma, hormones, dysthymia (don't think I spelled that right, but it's chronic mild to moderate depression), generational/genetic factors. Probably that's the case with a lot of people--depression is sort of a soup with several ingredients.
The things that help me most seem to be St. John's Wort, exercise outside, talking with friends, having confidence in God --though as we all know, confidence doesn't come at all naturally to the depressed person. But I think I'm getting better--every little bit of trying really does add up over time. I really do feel like I'm getting better!
I see there are a lot of twenties and teens on here, and I just want to tell you guys: YOU ARE A SPECIAL GENERATION! I want you all to know we love you and care what happens to you. Sometimes it seems like the evil one really has it in for this generation, which must mean you guys are destined to really knock him off his sorry you-know-what, and he knows it; that's why he's trying to demoralize you.
Ivy
P.S. They sure know how to make somebody feel like a freshman on this site--no signature, no character, no custom avatar, nothin'! Humph. Well, that's my negative spurt for today, now I'll be good.
Here's what I was going to use for my signature which I can't have:
"Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again." (ha ha ha)
