It looks like today is going to be another busy day. It is Saturday and its race day. I have 3 cars to get ready. I see my brother Jim just came in I hear Duke giving him his usual welcome. I can usually tell who it it is by watching Duke and listening to him. If you are on the good side of him you may come in, if not stay put. My brother Jim drove one car, I drove one, and I had a driver for the other one. We did alright but most of all we did it because of the thrill and excitement of racing. We had our ups and downs but mostly it was downs. I had figure 8 cars and sometimes it looked like we had a demolition derby out there. But all in all it was very exciting and nerve racking. Well I see Jim is outside testing his car. It sounds good and he says it is handling good also. We both check out the other one and it is ok. Now I come to mine and I find that I needed a part. As I look over the cars in the lot, I found one at the far end of the field. I had an old pickup for that kind of work. It had no windows in it. The seat was bad, but let me tell you it was Duke's truck. I don't know why! but he loved that pickup. I know Duke was watching and waiting for me to say," Hey Duke" lets go we need a part. But he wasn't anywhere around. Well I figured if he saw me getting in the pickup he would come. But when I opened the door " Lo and behold" there he was, and he looked at me as if to say, "well! lets go." Well I wasn't too sure where the pot holes were. But we needed the part. We made it to the car, I got the part and started back. I would have to make a remark to Duke,I said ,"well I guess we made it." Me and my big mouth, at that given time we hit and we went flying all over the place. Duke hit his head on the roof and I was hanging on to the steering wheel for dear life. After we came to a stop Duke was half way out the window. What a sight we both were. He sat there for a while and then as if to say," that was fun lets do it again." Back at the grage everybody got a good laugh out of it. Let me say anytime I said " Hey Duke" I knew were he was, there in the pickup raring to go. Memories I'll never forget.
