I just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I got sober w/ AA but after some bad experiences with meetings have not attended in quite some time. I have, however, found my new Christian family to provide the same (if not better) support. Anyway....HI!!!

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. Thanks Dralan....it wasn't just the group or the format it was someone who goes to most of the meetings in my area who started stalking me...I had to go to the police to get it to stop. But you are right...maybe if I try to get some out of town...thanks again!

Hey you! welcome to the Recovery Forum.
Sorry to herar about your expereinces with meetings. Yu didnt specify male or female but I assume male - most cities will have Ladies Only meetings at least onne a week. Does your?
And another thought - and this is a good one if uits available in your area - Celebrate Recovery
A christian recovery program very simliar to AA but is christian focused.

Is there a specific recovery forum for sexual addiction? I am working the steps in Clebrate Recovery and go to a weekly meeting but have participated in some of the mental health forums and could use the online support for this issue also - can anyone direct me? thanks

Alcoholics Anonymous is NOT for all drunks.
There are 2 12-Step groups for Alcohol-related issues:
1) AA; and
2) Al-Anon.
There are 2 basic personality types, for people who are affected by alcohol (either by relatives, or self):
1) A person who is self-obsessed, and doesn't much care about anyone else; and
2) A person who obsessively thinks about others and their needs.
The self-obsessed alcoholics are the center of their Universe.
They do well in going to AA meetings.
The others-obsessed people don't do too well at AA meetings.
When they share, many times others will come up and tell them that they aren't being honest.
So, many alcoholics (who are tender-hearted) attend Al-Anon meetings.
Even though it is set-up for people who are around alcoholics, they are welcome.
If you are one of those others-obsessed people, I recommend that you go to a couple of Al-Anon meetings.
Do it as an experiment.
Sit there, and see if you can more-closely relate to the people there.
