  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just saw this movie on pay per view and really enjoyed it. When they fought it was like they were dancing ballet. It was very much like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" but I liked it better because I could understand the plot a whole lot better. Jet Li is amazing. Thoughts anyone?:)

lol, yeah jet li is amazing:) being chinese, i love chinese action movies lol, i find the fighting a lot more intriguing than in the american movies. I also really liked Hero, but i actually liked Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon a bit better for the plot since its plot was a little more complicated...and Hero was like the same thing over and over except with diffrerent twists each time. Altho a good thing about Hero was that it wasn't as unrealistic as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. And in case you haven't seen it before, try Iron Monkey, its a pretty good one too :) oh yeah and House of Flying Daggers :D i LOVE that movie...altho for you you might not like it as much since the dancing isn't really as ballet-ish lol

I loved Hero, and have seen it many times.
I liked it alot more than CTHDragon.

The acting in Hero is top notch, the best ever for this genre, that I have seen.
The director wrote the story, and it was simply brilliant!

The lines were simple, but extremely effective. The facial expressions were priceless.
And the "two words" were perfect in wrapping the whole story together.

I just saw Iron Monkey this week, and that is the best wire work performance I have ever seen.
Typical plot, acting, and comedy, but with action so good, you stop and think "man these guys just take thier imaginatios and put them on film, with no limitations."

All three movies are simply outstanding.

HERO is such a beautiful film! My mouth was dropped the entire movie in awe. Truly a triumph of the art and should have been considered for more Oscars than just "Best Foreign Film" but then again, I'm convinced there are a lot of politics involved with the awards anymore.

When comparing it to "Crouching Tiger..." I see a lot of similarities like how delicate the movie can feel at times and the fight scene visuals. But out of the two, "Hero" comes out of top, in my opinion, just because I liked the story about honor and sacrifice moreso than the love story in CTHD.

I recommend this film for anyone who wants to see cinema as true art. It's amazing how wonderfully the colors tell the story.

i don't like how unrealistic all the kung fu movies have become. i mean, i don't mind the flying from roof-to-roof thing (because as crazy as it sounds i do believe that happened once upon a time in China) (get the pun? :D :sorry: ) but stuff like staying midair for like 5 seconds is so annoying. and jet li not getting hit by those millions of arrows?

but it is art i'd suppose. a beautiful film but not realistic.

"have become" ?

They have always been unrealistic.
But these movies are to them, what comic movies are to us.

no no. what i meant is that now you can so obviously tell they are using wires for like everything. kind of annoying.

I would love to see more Japanese movies as well (besides Godzilla) :) Broken sword is absolutely gorgeous! I'd love to see him in other movies.

lol...well i know a bunch of japanese movies, but unless you can stand quite a bit of gore and well...some sick stuff, then i shouldn't really mention them...

hahaha, thats quite true...the one we're talking about (assuming the one i'm talking about is the same lol...) is the one .... wait, only one of them has come out in america right? the rest are still only in china (or perhaps asia) as far as i know...anyways, i think we're talking about the one where the doctor steals from the rich to give money to the poor and then they try to find him and capture a bunch of other ppl and then wong kei ying promises to capture him and has to leave wong fai hung in the jail and he gets sick...etc and the doctor takes them in...well i think you'll prolly know which one by now lol
