Do you have a favorite place that you'd like to retire to?

Personally, I'm narrowed down to Traverse City, Michigan or Asheville, North Carolina. Of course, I'd have to talk my church into moving with me - otherwise I stay where I am.

OK - now I don't mean this to be a morbid question, but . . . . assuming that all family members are safe, what one thing would you take with you if you had to evacuate your house in an emergency (i.e. housefire)?

(Since most people say photographs, assume they're ok and choose something else!)

Not sure yet, I have a feeling we will live in the mid-west....we like four seasons, but RV the country throughout the year.

O.K.....so we are all out of the house safely, or have time to get out safely.

Actually, I wouldn't grab the photo's first.

I keep a "critical" file: social security cards, birth certs, pastports, state ID's , titles, etc. and I keep some emergency cash there too, enough to cover a couple days of hotel. I'd grab that file.

And I'd grab my purse.

If I truely have time to load the car (impending flood and notified evacuation) I would add,our family bible, 2 days of layers of clothes, a full week of underwear, and the photos on our wall going up the stairs (some vintage ones of great great grandparents, etc).

I think I would also grab the quilt my great grandmother made and maybe a whatever books we are all currently reading, and a few more for good measure.

Plus, all of our sleeping bags might not be a bad idea.

I'd let the kids each grab one or two special toys.

You are a smart lady!

Have you ever had to use it and if so why? (ie: Hurricane, Tornado, Flood)

No, not for emergency, but we travel, and organizations like schools often need copies of ID records. So, I seem to go to that file often.

I created it back when Y2K was of concern (HeHe, anyone remember that?), just incase we needed emergency cash, or hradcopy proof of ID and property for organizations who systems might have shut down.

Where do you get your news? (newspaper, tv, radio, online?)

What is one of your favorite "spare time" activities (i.e. reading, gardening, watching tv)?

If you're a tv watcher, which do you prefer - reality tv (Survivor, American Idol), sitcoms (no examples - don't watch them), dramas (L&O, CSI) or how to (i.e. HGTV, Food Network)? Or do you watch the older shows (Cosby, MASH, Bonanza) on Nick at Nite and/or TV Land?

Do you own any interesting artwork?

That depends on what YOU consider interesting. My fave though is a print my mother did of cowboys in the badlands....it is one of 10 full-sized prints of the original, signed by her. There are 3 in the series. In the 80's the originals were made into these limitted editions, and sold at the entrance to Theodore National Park.

I still need it to be framed, I want to get it coordinated with a photo I have of a wild-horse running through dust in deep sepia tones.

Sorry, I guess I rambled....I could have just said "Yes, I do.", but you know me.

TV and newspaper. It varies which depending on time and where I am at.

Gardening, yoga, reading....lots of other stuff too.

I am totally about variety in almost all ways. I love CSI Miami, Two-an-a-half-men, tons of the old shows (YOU already named a few I love above), the satirical drama of Boston Legal, HGTV's if houses could talk and Flip this house. I also like the soap opera Young and the Restless.

What do you believe that the Lord means when He says "Without a Vision, the people perish"?

ooh, tough....but I think he is talking about motivation. He is trying to get leaders to understand that you have to inspire, motivate and focus people in order to create unity. A good leader will do that toward the right things. (If you look at Hitler, and his use of religeon, then you know a bad leader can also do that toward horrific things.)

What do you eat for breakfast?

Today, Ralston wheat with raisins, yogurt, coffee and a Flintstone's vitamin.
(love hot cereal in the winter! )

Do you wake up crabby or happy in the morning?
Neither, I am so non-functional that I am a blank slate at that point. Here is the thing, any other time of the day, I am who I choose to be. But, when I wake up, especially if I haven't had enough sleep, it is a breeze for others to bring me either way up or way down. I wish I wasn't such a wimp at that hour.

1. radio & internet
2. reading, knitting & surfing the web (especially CF)
3. Anymore I mostly watch HGTV & The Food Channel. I do watch the various Law & Order shows, CSI Miami & New York (although not the original Las Vegas one), and Criminal Minds. I'll watch MASH or The Cosby Show (on Nick at Nite) as I'm falling asleep at night.

What are two of your best personal qualities?

Hmmmm....

If there is an emergency (illnesses, injuries, accidents, etc), I am usually pretty good at not panicing, getting done what needs to get done, then having my freak out time later when it doesn't interfere with getting/giving help.

The exception is my kids. The mommy in me can loose all perspective when it comes to them.

I am pretty open to building friendships with a variety of people. I could give a (ahem) about another person's appearance, wealth, political affiliation, job or social status. I tend to give very little time to people who have been rude and judgemental to others, who's words don't match their actions (especially if they are deceptive), and to people who manipulate to get what they want.

Man, this sounds bragful....please know that God didn't make me into a Saint. I am impatient, somewhat arrogant at times, can have a quick temper, and I am terrible at keeping my office organized. I've also been known to mix my hubbies white sox with the blue jeans (I think they hide in his pant legs).....and there is just no excuse for that kind of neglect of good white sox.

Deb, what do you see as 2 of your best qualities?

I think this is good! I like what you see in yourself.

Me? I have compassion for people when they're hurting most of the time and I like to stay with something until I have the answers - whether it's a relationship, or a problem at work, a financial problem - I like trying to solve problems with the best possible answer.
