My mother is a catlover pur sang. She turned her backyard into a place where the neighborhood straycats can find shelter from the rain and cold, and some food to boot. She was freeing up extra space for the coming winter this afternoon.

I know that if I were a straycat I'd be glad to have someone like my mom around, and I applaude her kindhartedness. I know it's no sacrifice to her. On the contrary; it would be a sacrifice to her, to abandon those cats.

It does make me curious though about the help other straycats are getting. Is there anyone out there who makes simillar efforts?

I live on a farm and people usually drop off their cats. Usually because they are pregnant and they don't want kittens, so they just drop them off to us. So that means instead of one cat, there will be 3 or 4. Right now we have 4 stray cats, 3 of them are kittens, just widdle babies.

We try not to feed them around the house so that they don't hang around and bother our cats. They live in our barns, so I leave some food out there for them. Usually my Dad or whoever milks the cows will leave a bowl of fresh cow milk out for them too.

The cats have plenty of warm places to sleep around our farm and they also help with catching mice and moles. So, we feed them and they help us out in the long run. :)

We had some kittens living in our woodpile last winter. We tried to get close to them but they were way too wild. We just left some cat food out for them and some water. They came and went as they pleased. We don't really get too many strays in our neighborhood.
