• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi Monica and welcome to the forum

I hope you find lots of support here.
Do you have a healthcare provider that can give you support?
Do you know of any helplines you can ring when you feel low?
That would be my advice, to talk to someone in person, and to get the right meds for you.
Also, exercise can help a little. Even just a walk around the block if you are able to.
Praying for you.

Welcome aboard! There is plenty of good advice and information here so do some back reading and you will find that you are not alone and can relate to other people's stories.

My first bit of advice is do not be discouraged and feel like giving up if your medications are not working right away. It may be up to a year or two before your psychiatrist find what the best cocktail of medications is for your neurotransmitters to fire correctly and give you the easiest pathway to control the disorder.

Second, make sure you are doing yourself a beneficial favor and see a psychologist or psychotherapist who can help you explain the disorder and offer your things to focus on like triggers, how to focus on the swings to bring yourself back to where you desire to consider normal.

Third, exercise and getting the heart rate up is a good way to reduce depression in general. Doing so when you struggle with depression is even more beneficial so that I would also recommend.

Fourth, do not be afraid to answer questions and, like she said, find someone in person you can talk with who you can feel safe with when discussing these things. We will also be here to offer you support. We all need it.

I have Bipolar and anxiety too. You can feel better. Medication can greatly reduce your symptoms. Are you on meds? If so, do they help? If not don't be afraid to tell your doctor so they can be changed and you will get all the benefits and not feel so bad. Praying to Jesus for you my friend.
