This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it. But it has been from one school due to fear of Muslim reaction. It shouldn't take long for all to follow suit like scared rabbits. It's a shame when truth is sacrificed for all due to fear of some.

Granted, but my point was that the OP's claim that it had been removed from the UK school curriculum in general was incorrect.

It shouldn't take long for all to follow suit like scared rabbits.

Have you got any evidence to support this? From the Snopes article:

A spokesman for the Department of Education and Skills (DES) maintained that "The Adjegbo report on citizenship [a different report authored by Sir Keith Adjegbo and released in January 2007 said key British historical events must be taught" and that while "the national curriculum is a broad framework and there is scope for schools to make their own decisions, teaching elements including the Holocaust and key British events will be compulsory."

It doesn't sound like there are any plans to stop teaching it.

It doesn't sound like there are any plans to stop teaching it.

Any precident will serve other lily-livered school systems who just don't want to bother.

If it's any consolation, most US school systems don't teach it either because they don't get past the historically revised American Revolution.

it's based on a hoax, and even if it was one school, government run schools can't decide what they can and cannot teach on thier own.

The problem with the holocaust is it is being used for political capital. While it ranks as one of the great tragedies of history it was by no means the worst or the first of its kind.

There were of course reasons why German's became anti-Semetic just as there were reasons why Andrew Jackson instrumented the trail of tears. They just do not justify it. Its not "irrational hatred" that is glossed over in most documeteries. It is a calculated evil. What most angers me about the Holocaust presentationis it perpetuates the myth that genocide irrationally comes from nowhere or irrational hatred the rest of humanity has towards Jews which is nonsense. They don't come from nothing and we can see them coming when one bothers to look.

The fatalities of the American civil war largely happened on the battlefield . That event invloved seige and starvation of non-combatants hence its listing.

I'm Nigerian, I would know our history. It's like saying the American civil war was genocide. Didn't 620,000 soldiers die in the American civil war? You should really read up on the Nigerian civil war before you presume to argue what should be on that list. You mentioned the economic blockade in times of the civil war as genocide which is interesting considering the US lead economic sanctions against Iraq (another country) during the 90's and during the American civil war the Union blockade occurred in 1861.

One statistic that isn't on the list is how many blacks were killed as result of the slave trade and 500 years of racism and civil rights infringments.

I am an American and you repeated my history to me incorrectly. The union blockade did not cause large civilian casualties. I know that war you mention did.

I know you're not - I was illustrating the Gowon's method of employing an economic blockade to deal with the civil war is not a metric for genocide. Blockades were used during the American civil war as well. I did not imply that the blockades were responsible for most of the casualities. The civil war in Nigeria combined both military force and an economic blockade, the same as the American civil war did. What I could not see was how you can consider one genocide and the other civil war. That's all. I guess will have to agree to disagree.

Actually, most of them occured due to disease. Check out the Museam of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Maryland.
