• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey there...
I quit smoking 1 week ago. I have been addicted to Nicotine for 17 years. It is hard but the battle of the mind plays a huge part. I have tried to quit so many times. I have failed everytime until now. I know I will be smoke free in Jesus Name, and you will too. You have 2 sides here, the habit and the addiction. Both have played a huge part in my life. As a christian, people tend to think that you can just lay it down and move on just that quick. We both know its not that easy. Some forget though that sitting down and eating 5 pieces of fried chicken is no different. It is still harmful to your body(gluttony). I have tried the nicotine gum over and over and I have tried just cold turkey. My pride got in the way last week and I knew this time, I needed help.
I want you to go visit CommittedQuitters.com

I absolutely love it. It is the most encouraging place I have found. I will also tell you this.. I put on a Nicoderm patch this morning. I have not had a craving for nicotine all day. I know the patch has nicotine in it but sometimes a little help can get you through. I have made my husband miserable all week. I have had sweats and anxiety. Today is the first day that I have not felt stressed since I quit. It is an 8 week program and it is cheaper than cigs. It is worth it because I need help. Some people quit cold turkey, I have tried that and it does not work for me. It's ok to have help and I know the Lord sees His children trying to break away from this strong hold. I am here for you. You can pm me if you want. I will pray for you. You are an overcomer. The victory is yours and the battle is the Lords. You just trust Him. It's better that a little nicotine be in your system rather than the rest entering into your lungs. This program is going to gradually wean you off of nicotine so it won't be so hard to let it go. Before you know it, you won't even want one. It is what I have to do to make it this time. The patch has been a miracle for me. God BLess You....

If I can quit, there's hope for even the most addicted. I was so addicted I about lost my mind not smoking without Gods help. I have 4 daughters(and my wife) that were tired of it.. but when we had my son last October I wanted to be ready.I began last spring to do it. I can say this: Prayer and my faith that prayer is answered is the only way I was able to quit the smokes. I wasn't able to alone. I will pray that you too begin to pray whole heartedly for a smoke free life. It is a daily check though.

This is my first time to use this site. I am trying to find a Christian who has quit smoking. I want to quit and need some advice, support and lots of help and Prayers! Thanks

I smoked for 40 years and I have not had one now for over 2 years. I tried everything. The only thing that worked was that I bought a computer and some appliances, etc. on credit, so I didn't have money to buy cigarettes. If I have them, I smoke them. But I can refuse to buy them. Paid off the debt in six months or less and now love having extra money to buy things.
