  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey Travis.

I'm going through the same thing right now and recently asked advice. What the good people at OBOB told me was:
-Pray often
-Attend Confession often
-Do something good every time you give into the that temptation (i.e. pray the rosary)
-Do everything you can do to avoid being in a situation where you'll be tempted to sin.

I know you're not a confirmed Catholic, so you won't be able to go to Confession yet, but just repent and pray for forgiveness.

Hope that helped some.

Well I would say going to confession every time you do it but you are not ready for sacramental confession yet, maybe talking to the priest will help, but you have to make a efficacious effort to stop, not just wanting to stop and being sorry you do it, but really taking steps that are effective in causing it to stop.

I don’t know the sin, so I can not recommend efficacious steps to take but I’ll given an example, if it is alcohol, you drink too much, then go to AA. Do something to rid yourself of the vice. Don’t just sit around and say, ‘I wish, I hope, I pray’ to stop. Jesus said, if your right arm causes you to sin then cut it off, well find the thing that is causing you to sin, and cut it out your life. Recognize the underlying sin behind it, if it is lust, gluttony or whatever it is, is a spiritual problem so you need to confess it, do penance, and you need to do what ever is necessary to stop the cause of you giving into whatever it is.

DT gave good advice. One of the keys is to head off the temptations the moment you even think they are beginning to occur. Something that always got me into troubles was thinking I could let my mind wonder and then bring myself under control. It never worked. You must gain control over the situation early.

For lustfulness this works pretty well---Putting your arms straight out as if on a cross. Not only with this turn your mind towards Jesus Sacrifice, but it will also keep your hands out of trouble.

God Bless, keep trying,
