  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

OK I am new to the idea of Charismatic, God has been leading me towards it, but I have questions...
1. How does one become "baptized in the Holy Spirit"?
2. What is the definition of Charismatic?

And recently, I have become more and more aware of my gift of discernment, most recently I was looking into the eyes of one of my students (I work with a youth ministry) and I think I could see the demon that has been afflicting her. Is this odd, or am I nuts, or is this true. Please help!

The baptism in the Spirit is how God makes you a member of His church (1 Cor. 12v13), it is not a "second blessing" subsequent to being born again as men have said, it *is* being born again, until you have it you cannot understand the kingdom of God.

Jesus & the apostles never discerned demons by looking in people's eyes, they did it by preaching the (true) gospel of authority with God then seeing the response of people. Demons resulted in adverse physical / mental reactions.

changed - you need to receive this:-
Ac:2:4: And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(v33, 39, 10v44-48)

This is not official doctrine. Just my experience. Use your new gift to test it.

Sometimes God teaches us and imparts to us directly Himself:
You can receive baptism in the Holy Spirit if you have the desire for it and you pray for it. Simply cry out to God and ask Him to baptize you with His Holy Spirit. You do not need man to help you. God can do it without man ... but

Sometimes it is God's will that a servant of God lay hands on us and pray for us to receive baptism in the Holy Spirit. This happens more often when you have access to a congregation of believers, who can help you understand more about the gifts that God gives, and help you grow to maturity.

Discernment of spirits is a gift of the Holy Spirit that would indicate baptism in the Holy Spirit has already occurred. It is usually given to servants called to healing and deliverance ministry. God equips us for the work He gives us.

Just as God creates us uniquely, he gifts us uniquely too. No two people have exactly the same way of discerning spirits. But there are some commonalities.

Abi.

I should not have said, could see it, but I could tell there was something not of God at work.

You recieve the Spirit upon water baptism as states in Acts 2:38. Baptism by the Spirit was sometimes used to mean baptism for those that were baptised by John (water) but that did not recieve the Spirit.
Oh really? Where the firer as state by John in the water baptism? Your doctrine understanding is in error.

Acts 19:

3So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?"
"John's baptism," they replied.
4Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.

So, before the Spirit was "released" so to say, they were two seperate events, after that however, as Peter clearly stated, they come at the same time.

Acts 10:

44While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. 46For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
47Then Peter said, "Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have." 48So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days

Only Jews had been Christian up to this time. This outpouring was like Pentecost, except to Gentiles. It showed Peter that God had accepted anyone into his kingdom, regardless of race.

changed - deliverance is being moved/changed from one situation to another. The word "salvation" mans deliverance !

In the OT they were delivered from oppressors and oppressive situations, in the NT we are delivered from an existance separate from God, being "in the flesh", to a Life where God dwells within. making you "free indeed", no demons lurking in dark corners, you are given a spotless robe, you become a temple of God, part of Christ's body. Here's how:-
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing (i.e. baptism) of regeneration (new birth), and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly (i.e. not by measure / in part) through Jesus Christ our Saviour (Titus 3v5-6)

That "shedding upon" began at Pentecost:-
Ac:2:33: Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath *shed forth* this, which ye now see and hear.

. . .and continues the SAME today !
Jude:1:3: Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the *common salvation*, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for *the faith which was once delivered* unto the saints.

that faith comes with the ability to "pray in the Holy Ghost" (read Jude 20-21).
