Hi! I'm about to begin work on a paper for my mythology class and I have a theory that I believe I can make a strong case for, but I do need some help and some thoughts on this. My theory is this; Zeus and the other greek gods were (and are) in fact Satan and the rest of the fallen angels.

My rationale thus far is this...

-The manner in which Zeus became the third god of the pantheon is similar (albeit with a different interpretation perhaps) to the way Satan was cast down from heaven.

-The attitudes and mannerisms of the greek gods are easily identifiable as sinful according to Christian beliefs.

-Zeus and several other greek gods lusted after humans just as fallen angels seemingly did according to one translation of the bible (I can't recall at the moment which. It was in Genesis though)

-The nephilim could have been mistaken for gods amongst the greeks

I'm having a difficult time right now with this and I thought some of you who are more knowledgable about the Bible (particularly satan and the fallen angels and the nephilim) could help me. I'd also prefer evidence from cannonized scripture as well. Thanks for your help!

Hey brother,
I think you may be on to something. Genesis 6 is where you'd look to for scripture. I've discussed this with a lot of different people from different denominations who believe this, but my only textual reference is Genesis 6, I don't know if there is a book out there on this. I'm interested in finding that out myself.

Catch22,

I have thought this myself. In Genesis where it talks about the sons of God visiting the daughters of men and producing the Nephilim who were "the mighty men of yore," I always thought they were the beings upon which the myths about the Greek gods came about.
