This message board has a subsection for Christians only.

In that subsection is General Theology. Under GT is Origins Theology. Under Origins Theolgy is a Creations subforum where you can get help with interference from either Christians who think evolution is how God did it or from non-Christians.

Here, you will get your but kicked too. :)

If you're really getting your butt kicked, I suggest you bone up on evolution - try TalkOrigins. You can search on particular favorite crevo arguments and their rebuttals in easy to understand language.

Hi,

The problem with these type of debates are that you need to prove the unseen and the other party uses the seen to prove their view which is way easier. You are a light in the darkness, don't let the darkness put out your light, stay with the Bible, because it is the truth! no matter what the world tells you!

You probably know that by His stripes we ARE healed, sometimes you see people who are told by the world they have cancer and they only have 3 months left to live, then by laying hands on them these people gets healed by Jesus instantly, so when you look at these events, what was the real truth? the seen facts given by the doctors with all their tests or Jesus who said we are healed by His stripes, the unseen facts?

This is where faith comes in, you do not need faith with the seen........it is written that it is impossible to please God without faith and that the righteous live by faith.....you will find that people reject faith, because they are afraid they will be seen as ignorant or narrow minded, don't let them get to you my friend, give him his small time of glory by being the humble one, not saying you must accept his theology, but just so that he can feel as if he won.....take on these debates when you have done your research, evolution is not the truth, only a theory, because it is very difficult to observe evolution and you must remember that adaptation is also a form of evolution, the only problem you should have is with macro evolution, the other types are fine.

Hopes this help you a bit, be blessed!

Isn't this more of a scientific question than a theological one?

If it weren't for religion there would be no creationism. It really comes down to accepting God's word against the evidence, all the evidence in the World if it comes to that.

If there was any kind of proof of anything fundamental to the Christian faith then faith would not be needed. That applies to everything - after the Flood God tidied it up so well there isn't a shred of evidence left, and he restored all the old races and cultures so well that the Egyptians carried on making pyramids and doing the same hieroglyphics and so on all over the World apparently without the slightest interruption.

There is sufficient abundance of fossils with apparent ages to give the overwhelming impression that evolution is what happened,

it really comes down to you choosing what to believe:

2 Cor 5 v6Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7We live by faith, not by sight. 8We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

I have an ongoing debate with a kid at school about evolution.

He's presenting some pretty good arguments and he's kicking my butt, can anyone help?!
Make him stick to a literal Genesis 1.

  • Genesis 1 pwns evolution.
  • Genesis 1:1 pwns atheism.
  • Genesis 1:1a pwns abiogenesis.

Your assuming

1. The other guy believes in the Bible

2. And if he does, he holds a literal interpretation.

Arguing from the Bible is silly. Its arguing from a conclusion.

As I said in your first thread, that is because he actually doesn't have any flaws in his logic and actual evidence on his side. You may want to consider the fact that you could actually be mistaken.

That's what we're looking for, isn't it?

A conclusion?

Or is our goal to yak all day long?

Well, yes. It would be pretty ridiculous to quote the Bible to prove Creationism to an atheist, wouldn't it? Why do you assume this kid outdoor_engineer is arguing with is a Christian?

For the creationist, it is a theological question. For the evolutionary biologist, it is a scientific question.

The only viable argument a creationist has, is to claim that the bible said it happened this way, and I believe it to be true. That's it. Cased closed.

It is simply futile to use rational scientific arguments to refute the theory of evolution. Evolution is fact. It happened, and is happening. Literally all fields of science (paleontology, botany, geology, plate tectonics, anthropology, molecular genetics, zoology, embryology, neurology, biology, radio active dating, cosmology, etc.) agree and support the ToE.

There are no facts that support creationism. It has no predictive power as a theory, and has contributed nothing to humanity. The only reasonable recourse is to simply state that this is your faith, and you choose to believe in creationism.

Hope this helps.

Ok, well this kid probably disagrees with you. If outdoor_engineer quotes the Bible at him, he'll just be laughed at and everyone will take it as a concession, I imagine.

You're right. We LOOKING FOR a conclusion. If we already agreed on that conclusion, people wouldn't have this debate.

So, again, you can't use the conclusion to back up your argument.

Edit: To clarify, you CAN use your conclusion in your argument but it wouldn't be a sound argument, then.

1. Tell him there are two choices... yours and his. If you cast any doubt on his, then you win by default.

2. Declare victory!

3. Tell him he will burn in The Lake Of Fire if he doesn't interpret scripture like you do.

4. Tell him that God said so, and You believe it.

5. Tell him that you don't come from no monkey.

6. Ask him how everything can come from nothing. Then explain how God created the universe ex nihilo.

7. Ask him who the first man mated with.

8. Tell him you don't have enough faith to believe in evolution.

9. Tell him that random changes making an elephant is like a tornado ripping through a junk yard and creating a 747. Be sure to ignore the fact that evolution is not random.

10. Ask him if the "Missing Link" has been found yet.
