• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Okay, so my doctor has said for almost 2 years now that I have bipolar disorder. But even so, I really feel like I have OCD from what I know (and I know a lot. I enjoy studing phycology). I've taken sceening tests, looked at the syptoms, and really think that I was either misdiagnosed or, please no, have both illnesses.

Unfortunatly, It seems that my doctor thinks I'm just a teen who has no idea what she is talking about.

I need help. Does anybody have advise as to what to do in a situation like this? I just want to know what's the problem with my brain already. I've been rediagnosed so many times and it's getting frustrating.

Even if you don't have advise, could you guys pray that things work out? Please? I'm really confused and I'm sick of these people poking at me with a stick because they can't figure me out.

If you don't mind me asking, what are your symptoms?
many other people on this forum who have OCD including me might be able to tell you.

As the person above suggested,
perhaps you could try a different doctor?

Peace be with you
All kinds of stuff. I worry all the time about getting germs or deseases. I worry somebody's gonna break in or one of the spirngs on my matress in going to impale me. People tell me I'm obbsessive a lot and I've even been asked if I have OCD. The list goes on and on. I took a diagnotic test once too. It took me a while to get a symtom I didn't have.

Plus, my mood swings don't come suddenly like they say heppens with Bipolar. instead. I start thinking of something that makes me sad/angry/excited, and I pick at it and pick at it until It really starts to affect my mood.

Ok, I am not a doctor but I am sure you have OCD, the germs/diseases thing is probably the most popular symptom for OCD sufferers. People breaking into your house is also an obsession that I have heard of before with OCD.

Check out some websites which list OCD symptoms, even give http://psychcentral.com/ocdquiz.htm a try.

Once again, I am not a doctor but it seems to me you do indeed have OCD. I hope I'm not sounding mean here.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Sometimes it seems to take a long time for all the correct diagnosis' to come forth. It's certainly no fun. I'm having the same trouble with rheumatologists trying to figure out my newly found arthritis.

Not to scare you...but I went through 11 psychiatrists, in 8yrs, before I was properly diagnosed. I have OCD, depression, and anxiety. I've been hospitalized 7 times. But I still lead what I call a normal life. God has helped me to see that there are reasons I have these ailments...they are somehow part of His plan.

My daughter has depression, anxiety, OCD, and Adult ADHD. She too has overcome much, and went to college, and is now a teacher.

These types of illnesses are not the end of the world. It's a difficult handicap we are going through in this world...But remember, "Christ has overcome the world," as the bible states.

Peace to you this Christmas Season,
seajoy

That doesn't scare me at all. My statistics are probably not that far off. Countless phycologysts have bugged me and I've been in the ER several times and kept for long stays twise.

Carl (Can't figure out how to quote 2 people.): That's the same test I took before that I got lots of yeses on.

Netbug009,
I am so sorry for everything you are going through but PLEASE do not dismiss the diagnoses of bipolar disorder. I have done extentive research in this area as my 11 year old daughter has recently been diagnosed with Bipolar type 2 - rapid cycling. Along with many other symptoms, she also has obsessional thoughts and compulsive behavior. It is very easy to misdiagnose bipolar because the symptoms it can also mimick - OCD, tics, ADD/ADHD, depression, anxiety, psychosis - just to name a few. So if you have a psychiatrist that was actually able to see beyond these other symptoms, you are very blessed. It is important to let him know how bad the obsessional/compulsive symptoms are because he may need to add in a medication to treat OCD as well as your medication to treat the bipolar disorder. I hope this helps. Feel free to pm me anytime.

Sandy

Don't worry. i have no intention to throw my bipolar out the window. At least, not unless a doctor tells me that I don't have it.

Hi, Iv'e struggled with OCD as well & 2 nervous breakdowns. Have any of you ever tried having private communion to break any family generational curses?

I have done this and in the space of a year so much has happened and I believe that the Lord has healed me, (by His stripes you are healed.) I finally know who I am in Christ.

Find a great Church that preaches the Holiness message and Bible Study Groups any above all, Praise The LORD.

You are healed.
