  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

well what kind of genre are you interested in? you could go to youtube.com and watch the first episodes of animes that you think would appeal to you or find some summaries of different mangas using google until you find one (or more) that you like.

Azumanga Daioh's probably a good place to start if you've never been initiated to anime at all.

It's comedy, light-hearted, doesn't really have questionable stuff except for maybe this creepy (misunderstood) teacher, and doesn't have a lot of references/anime culture that requires years of anime watching to understand.

If you want something even more mainstream to ease yourself into it, try Spirited Away or Grave of the Fireflies.

If you'd rather jump right into current, high-quality anime, then I'd recommend watching The Melancholy of Suzumia Haruhi. It might boggle your mind though.

If you'd like another high-quality anime that's extremely popular, but you may not have the stomach for, try Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. It's a murder story in the style of a sound novel (which was what it was based on) told repeatedly with different unfoldings of the events as you try to figure out the truth of what's going on.

If you'd like to understand the anime/manga culture itself, watch/read Genshiken and/or Welcome to the NHK (the former paints a more normal picture of anime fans, while the latter shows the darker side of obsession and an actual societal problem in Japan)

I know next to nothing about Anime or Manga. Where's a good place to start? The artwork looks interesting, and the discussions I've had with fans are intriguing, but where do I go from there? :help:
go2 local library & look for manga in teen section

the first animes i watched were inu yasha and fullmetal alchemist. they're what got me hooked on anime and manga. inu yasha has a lot of japanese culture so it might be a bit confusing but it's still good to watch/read. inu yasha has a lot of action and a really long plotline *cough*fillers*cough* but it also has romance and that got on my nerves after awhile. fullmetal alchmeist. is. awesome. i don't care when you watch/read it but if you do start liking anime/manga then you HAVE to watch fma (fma for short). it actually takes place in europe about 100 years ago and it's just like real life except that there's alchemy. it's kinda of like magic and science combined and it allows alchemists to transmute or change stuff. the plot are characters are very detailed and never gets dull.
