  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey guys! Here is my dilemma. Today some of my friends and I had a huge discussion about religion, god, beliefs, the whole nine yards. They were all asking me really good questions and it was a really good discussion. There were a tonne of really open minded people. They were talking about different books where they got different theories about creation. etc. There was one girl who has read at least 15 books on different theories, there were some major seekers here. They asked if there were any books that they should read other than the Bible. I told them I that I would have a look around home too see what I could find to recommend. I NEED some good books for these people who are SEEKERS. Anyone know of any at all? I am drawing a blank as I have never really read a book geared at this audience, any help would be great. Oh yeah ASAP would also be great! Thanks so much guys! Have a great day!

"Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis is a good book as I remember it. "More than a Carpenter" by Josh McDowell is also good.

If they are reading in particular about evolution and are wanting some information as to why that is false there are several good books.

For starters, "Darwin on Trial" by Philip Johnson

"Darwin's Black Box" by Behe

"Bones of Contention" - can't remember author on this one.

I would seriously consider though, Romans 1:16 tells us that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation. Other books may be nice, but only the word of God has power. If you want my advice, I would start a study with them and go through the gospel according to Luke and the book of Acts.

If the word of God can't convict them, nothing else ever will. Don't get me wrong, other books are helpful for gaining insight, but the power is in the Word :)

Yes, More than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell is a good one. PM and and give me an address and I can use my college budget at my church to buy as many as you need. It is an apologetic book for Christianity. I will mail them to you for free. They are short books but good.
