  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

oh this makes me mad, but i just don't know enough of the scripture or catechism to be able to respond truthfully. if only because they are convinced i'm lying....i know that sunday is a celebration of the resurrection, but for some reason that isn't explanation "enough".

so here's a question, a catholic i know says that during lent it is okay to take part in what you have given up on the sundays during lent (like if you give up candy for lent, you can eat it on the sundays though). the rationale is that WITH the sundays added in, the time between ash wed. and easter is more than 40 days.

mhillson,
you won't find anything offical on this. the custom of giving up something is a personal devotaion and not governed by any offical document. Its up to you to decied what you fill is right.

As far as the fourty days there are two veiws and unfourntly there is nothing offical either way.

The other one besides your is that Lent dosn't begin till Sunday. That ash wensday tommorow and friday and saturday are days of preperation. Thus why in certian liturgical texts there refered to the Thursday after Ash WEnsday and not the First Thursday of Lent.

From the first sunday of Lent to the evening of Holy Thursday is 40 days.

But in the end which view is right dosn't realy matter
