  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Help! I have a job interview!

I wasnt sure where the appropriate place to post was so here goes...

I have a job interview coming up and I hate interviews, I really, really do. Mostly because I dont like talking about myself and an interview is essentially selling yourself and making yourself look great. Although I do pretty well with most interview questions the one I usually get stuck on is "Tell me about yourself."

I looked it up on google and most people say that when you are asked this question they interviewer is wanting you to talk about your past job experience and why you'd be a good pick for the job. But I never really know what to say when Im asked this question. How do I start off? Do I just jump right in to my work history, even though they have my resume right in front of them? Ive only had a handful of jobs so I always feel like I dont talk about myself for long enough. Any help and advice on job interviews would me appreciated. THANK YOU!

Well, not sure if this'll help but I'll give it a go (just use what basically lay out here):

Well, I'm a pretty well-rounded person, and I like to think long term about my life, my work, and everything else in-between; for instance, in 5-10 years I would like to [insert your agenda here] and I see myself reaching those goals by [your steps you plan on taking irregardless of the work there].

When I'm not working I like to [insert some hobbies here (shows you aren't going to fall apart from working)]. Balance is key to everything.

Overall, I'd say I am [insert personality traits here] and I enjoy being me.

-hope that helps a bit.

I think that Nom gave good advice.

The only thing I would add is not to fidget too much, and don't actually TELL them that you don't like talking about yourself. They want to know that you have the confidence and ability to handle anything that is thrown your way.

Good luck on your interview! I have one myself on Tuesday. :D
