• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I had already posted this earlier on amandita's link, but I thought we could all benefit from it :) I hope this helps. To God be the Glory forevermore.

I have an idea that might help you: don't get on this site too often. Get on it just for a bit to get some Love and help, but then close it off after an half hour or so THEN put on some Pandora.com songs - Christians songs and artists. While you are listening to the songs, play Bejeweled or Plants vs. Zombies - something to distract your mind but it must be a game that is fun to play that will keep your mind occupied (and play a game that is G-rated like Zuma, Luxor, or Tetris). The music and lyrics of the Christian music will calm you while the games will stimulate your mind and take its focus off of the OCD thoughts.

Check out these artists:

-Toby Mac - City on our knees - (from his album 'Tonight')

-Gungor - weird name but a GREAT Christian Band

-Phil Wickham - any of his stuff!!

-Hillsong - any of their albums and songs are wonderful

-Hillsong United - I think its the same band as Hillsong, but they changed their name, not sure why - but it doesn't matter because they are amazing!

-Casting Crowns -great Christian Band

-Jars of Clay - wonderful Christian Band

Just go to Pandora.com, put these bands in the category of Christian music and enjoy :) Just start praising God for what He has done for you and, in my opinion, His Grace will flow through the music and calm your mind. Even if its a small OCD break, its worth it. Plus, you get great uplifting lyrics rather than the trash that most modern music pushes that it calls 'music.'

Anyways, hang in there. Don't stay on these boards too long because OCD feeds off of doubts and re-assurance and a part of surfing these boards is to gain re-assurance - at least that is what I used to do and it didn't help my OCD but made it worse. Now I just try and help people and get information in the form of therapy techniques, Biblical support, etc.

OCD, especially Blasphemy OCD, does not thrive on FAITH or sound doctrine from the Bible, it thrives on worry, constant need for re-assurance based on fear, doubt, anxiety, and lack of information. So if you do surf these boards I would, in my opinion just keep it to getting information that can help you cope and helping people by spreading support with Love.

I know you need help badly and you are hurting badly, but walk day by day with your Loving Lord - the Lord Jesus Christ. He is to the left of you, to the right of you, in front of you, in back of you, above you, under you, and most importantly, inside you with the Father and the Son. Don't give up sister.

With Love to you and to God be the Glory,

Brian

Well, I guess it could be a PG-rated game lol :D

I have some tactical games that involve some violence. I don't take pleasure in the violence, its the tactical part. And most times I don't play the bad guy - but sometimes I will play the Germans in Company of Heroes. I guess my point is that keeping your mind involved in some tactical game, whether it be easy or complex, can help your mind stay focused and relieve some of the OCD symptoms.

But I think the combination of Christian based music and focused gaming could be a powerful weapon against OCD symptoms. Well, try it out, it may help :) Have fun!

P.s.
And if you get bored of that, think of some other relaxing combinations when your OCD symptoms start to get bad or already really bad.
