  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My little grandson will be born any day now, when I adopted mine, we had all new things. My grandson will be using lots of used things, one being a playpen/bed, how do I clean it?? I know cleansers are out b/c of the chemicals, so just soap and water or ??? Any help is appreciated, as well as prayers for the little fella. Thanks & God bless.

For the playpen, I would get an can of those clorox antibaterial wipes and clean every nook and cranie with the them then go behind and use a rag with water to wash off the cleaner.

For toys we'd use double the strength of cleaner needed to wash floors in a bucket of hot water and let them sit them rinse them really well.

Then you can let them all air dry really well.

The reason I suggest the wipes it because you won't have more cleaner than needed and you can throw away all the germs with them.

I think the clorox website has all kinds of tips on their website.

Personally I would just go with the soap and water. And air dry thoroughly.

Kids are not developing a very good immune system these days because of the amount of disinfectant parents are using on every thing that doesn't move.

By the time the child is old enough to need the play pen, it will be crawling and finding all sorts of germs on the floor etc.

I've used bleach and water, and then rinsed with water...but I love the idea of the wipes! All the used toys, I threw them in the dishwasher and I put all the fabric type things in the washer.

I agree, that we shouldn't give the kids an "extreme' sterile environment but the idea of putting my baby on/in/with used things without washing them grossed me out.

Had to smile at the WD40:thumbsup: ...we use it for everything....now where is my duct tape...or it that a Canadian thing:thumbsup: !

One other little tip that just came to mind...when thinking of tape...I put a piece of clear packing tape over all the speakers on my kids toys...it cuts down the noise a bit...some of them are designed to burst eardrums...I'm sure!

I stuck all my kids used plastic in the dishwasher, if it didn't survive I didn't use it.

All cloth went in the washing machine, again if it didn't survive I didn't use it.

For the larger stuff, I would go with any old child safe cleaner (soap and water is fine) then spray with bleach water. Then let YOUR germs accumulate, not 'Jr stranger' who could have who knows what that is waaay worse than a cold or something.
