• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi all. I have been suffering from depression for some time now, and I know how hard it is on my partner. I wondered if anyone out there also struggles caring for their loved one who has depression, and if you might know of any good books/ websites that I might be able to direct my partner to in order for him to get some support and advice himself? I know there are times when he is trying so hard to help me, and I am completely unable to articulate how I am feeling, which leaves him feeling helpless and frustrated. Any suggestions?

i don't know any books; but i have another idea. over in the bi-polar forum, we have a thread where we are sharing management skills. another idea i have is to ask the doctor or hospital for a stress relief packet; or refferal for crisis info.

My wife, Debi1967, suffers from depression and other physical illnesses as well. I take care of her 24/7. I don't know of any books or websites but I can tell you what works for me. It does get frustrating at times so it is important for the caregiver to take time for him or herself. Meaning tell your hubby to get out and enjoy himself. Go for a walk, go visit friends, or do something he enjoys doing. It is important he keep a healthy attitude so there is not 2 in the household fighting depression.Try your hardest to articulate how you are feeling, I know it is difficult sometimes but communication is very important. If you haven't already got him info on depression I would suggest that. Most pyschatrist office have info that is free and you can ask about any books they may suggest.Something else that helps is both me and my wife have seperate counselor to talk to. If you don't have counselors I would suggest looking into it. They can help with your depression and give him an outlet to blow steam off when he needs to. Also they will know of any books or websites that might help him. Hope this helps a little....praying for you and hubby. Tell him if he wants he or you can PM me anytime and I will be glad to help any way I can....God Bless
