  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Help a clueless, inept guy out?

There's this girl at school that I see and talk to every day at lunch. She's really sweet and nice, and she might be the most beautiful girl I've ever seen on the outside too to top it all off. Plus, I'm beginning to think she really might actually like me.

It's all perfect, except for that I have no idea whether she's a Christian or not. Well, says astute reader, ask her, then. Here comes the inept part. How does one DO that? "Hey, how was your day, yeah, economics is pretty boring, so anyway, do you believe in God?". Plus, we always talk just within a group of people, it's not like we have many deep one on one conversations.

Well, says astute reader, take her out to lunch sometime. Problem there (other than that I'm a wuss) is that I really don't know the girl that well. It'd probably really be seen as going to fast and it'd seem pretty odd. What I've decided to do is just get to know each other better, eventually figure it out, and go from there.

My other problem, and other question, lies within one of the better scenarios. Let's say she likes me, and she decides she's tired of hinting and waiting for me to stop being a wuss and just asks me out. What would I do? Be like, "Hey, that'd be awesome, just one quick question...are you a Christian? Oh, no? Well, sorry, not going to work then." That'd come off really mean, but that's the general gist of what I'd have to be like, right? Because I know that no matter how nice and how beautiful a girl is, it means nothing if I can't share my spiritual life with her.

In summary:
1. Without just randomly bringing it up, do you have any good ideas of how can I figure out whether she is a Christian or not?
2. If she does like me and isn't a Christian, how do I avoid really hurting her?

Thanks in advance :)

Well even if she isint a Christian - maybe (if you are getting the impression she likes you) just ask her out as friends for coffee or something and spend the time talking about stuff, inevitably its gonna come up, you can share your beliefs, and whatdya know she might not be a Christian but she might be seeking?
