A group from the old church we used to belong to, rented a bus to go to the casino one sunday morning....thus skipping church. Their bus got in an accident in the snow (no one was hurt) and never made it to the casino. Hmmmmm......We have six casinos within that radius, and one community just approved more.
The sad thing is that many church members make it a regular part of their day/week, and see nothing wrong with it, and even justify their indulgence.

I hear you on that. Gets frustrating. Supposedly many go to eat at the restaurant. Yeah, right![FONT= "Book Antiqua"]

But...on the flip side, I have a relative who plays at the casinos all the time. You know those old ladies with blue hair, oxygen tanks, cigarettes and white gloves? That's my great aunt. She practically lives at the casino. She rarely wins, but she is certain she will win the "big one" any day now. This is when I think gambling becomes a sin - when it overpowers everything in your life.
About that bus trip...there is a saying that coincidence is merely God choosing to remain anonymous. I think that case was a fair representation of coincidence!
Oh gee, I've lost count of casinos - a new one just opened down in Riverside, there's a new one in Waterloo, I think, and we have one about 25 miles from us - have heard rumours that some local people who went out of business was because of the 'boat' - but I don't know for sure. There's Tama, and Dubuque - and I don't know what's in western IA... Too many, that's what I think.Um, that is suppose to be "casinos"
Well, you are a few years older than me it looks like. So who knows.[FONT= "Book Antiqua"]
I wondered if you thought maybe some of us (ahem) were old enough to have moved the caissons in WWI?
(Although the song was written in the Philippines.)

Cool story, Rad.I was rollin' on my "scoot" in New Mexico and the temp was hovering around 100. The tar was melting on the road and the heat coming from the motor and the road was blowing into the sides of my helmet alone with road grit and dust. I decided that the next exit I would definitely get off because I was getting light headed and dry as a bone.
Coming up at the next exit was a bright shiny new casino sitting right in the middle of the desert. Nothing around for miles. Man did that look inviting where I knew I could get a ice cold soda and cool off. I pulled the cycle around to the front that looked like the entrance to some ancient temple. Took off the helmet, gloves and goggles and headed for the cool interior. All I wanted was my cold drink so I went to the counter and asked for a cola and sat at a "one arm bandit".
My 5 dollars turned into 25 so I though I was ahead of the game and decided to leave. I had a smile on my face when I stopped at the gas station later and mentally thanked the good people of New Mexico for filling my gas tank
