  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ablaze was a program that the LCMS started several years back to encourage members to tell people in their lives the Gospel and to invite them to church. What was originally was good thing, has become something that has had many repercussions. We saw an increase in very contemporary worship services and some hiding that they are Lutheran. They did this to try to be more "relevant".

The LCMS elected a new Synodical President last summer who is much more confessional than the previous one and I notice that we are hearing a lot less about Ablaze. It is good to see things beginning to swing back to being more confessional. It will take time though.

Many young people are returning to the more liturgical services which is a good thing.

If one evangelism effort is abandon, are we to expect the new presidents' substitute program?

seajoy, thanks for the clarification on STudeclunker.

Thank you for the welcome Tangible, Aibrean, and goldbeach!

Aibrean, I am from northeast Ohio, near Akron. I remember the Xenia tornado. My great aunt & uncle lived in Spring Valley. My oldest son went to Miami of Ohio, if you know where that is.

QuiltAngel, thanks for the explanation regarding Ablaze.

Blessings, Beth

I was answering Beth's question regarding Ablaze. I don't think this thread is the place to get into a discussion/debate about it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to do that (I didn't know it was debated). I only wondered what it was being replaced with - if anything.

I'll "butt" out....

Blessings!
