This is why God puts the authorities in place I believe.

So many people have such a glowing view of themselves, they don't realise that it is generally their upbringing that is what causes them to be obedient, not their 'goodness'. Ask any person raised in a mob family.

All this discussion of hell is stupid unless we realise our own wretchedness. The story Jesus told is what is going on here:
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: God, I thank you that I am not like other peoplerobbers, evildoers, adulterersor even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.
But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
I do not fully understand what you are saying but I guess you could say that.
God has told us that we do have hate in our harts and that we do have murder in our harts.
I do not believe that there is not one single person here who does not think about killing somebody that wronged them in the past as they lay at night for sleep.
I know as I lay at night that on occasion I think of ways I can murder somebody who wronged me.
I would never act on those thought and I do not even need laws to keep me in order as I know Jesus does not want me to do these things but that does not keep me from thinking them.
I will say right now that the laws of this country do not keep me in line but it is the fact that God will one day judge me that keeps me in line as nothing I do will escape what He can see and I do need Jesus to save me from my wrongs.
Do you think it is loving or not to warn people that they are deceiving themselves into thinking they are good and are going to heaven?
Read the following passage and ask yourself: Was Jesus being loving here?

I don't see him terrorizing frightened people here. That he concluded with "with people it is impossible" is consistent with what I'm saying.
Do you think the rich man was terrified at the thought of selling all his possesions, giving his money to the poor and following Christ?
Or more terrified at the thought that his lust for money and riches were separating him from God for eternity?
It does not say he was terrified. Further, have you sold all of your possessions? Are you separated from God for eternity because you haven't? I think you're reading into the passage something that isn't there.
No I haven't sold all my possessions. But I don't really care about them that much, because I'm not rich like this guy was. Every one struggles with different sins, please don't miss the context.

Both the young man and Christ provide the relevant context: the young man wanted to know what he must do to inherent the kingdom/eternal life and Christ's explanation for his answer is that it is impossible.
