Yes it is. Here's some Scripture that makes it pretty clear. (Emphasis mine)

Matthew 25:46-And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Mark 9:44-46--44-where 'Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.' 45-And if your foot cause you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell. into the fire that shall never be quenched--46-where 'Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.'

2Thessalonians 1:9-These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

Revelation 14:11-And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."

There's also a passage in Daniel (12:2)
And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt.

There are others, but that should get you started. :)

Yes, the bible says hell is forever. And it torments, but it also describes it has a dark and lonely place (don't remember where), where you are enternally seperated from God.

One parable by Jesus talks about Lazurus in heaven and a rich man in hell, the rich man asks for a drop of water from Lazarus, but his condition is permanent. The rich man wants to go back and warn his family, but he can't, and Jesus said, "if Abraham (heaven) they didn't listen to Moses, then they won't listen to you"

The Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16)

19"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In hell,[3] where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'
25"But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'
27"He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, 28for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
29"Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.'
30" 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
31"He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

I think this is saying that he is in Hell b/c he did not listen, not because he was rich.

I am sorry that I first off did not give you scripture to back this up. here are the versus that show you what i am talking about.

revelatians 20:13+14

[11] And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
[12] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
[13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
[14] And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
[15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

This is talking about the great white throne judgement where the lost will give an account to God as they are thrown not into hell ( notice death and hell gave up which were in them ) but into the lake of fire. The lake of fire and hell are not the same place. Hell is thrown into the lake of fire v14. and "whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." not hell.

The lake of fire is the eternal abode of those that reject Gods free gift of salvation. Hell is the abode of those same folks untill the great white throne judgement. Where the lost will be cast into the lake of fire. "and the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever:" rev 14:11

By the way cece all those qoutes "everlasting destruction" and so forth are references to the lake of fire not Hell.

That is kidda not fair...those who enter Hell late kidda get less punishment...
Actually everyone is going to go to Hell at the same time. Because once you die you don't go to Heaven or Hell immediately. Everyone will be judged at the same time.

IMHO, I beg to differ. I think your twisting the Bible's words. If they are in Hell and Hell is in the lake of fire then what's the difference? Also, where do you get the non-eternal part?

I agree that if hell is thrown into the lake of fire and then the lost they are kinda in hell. well maybe the bible does not say how big the lake of fire is.

Now as far as all being judged at one time. The bible says "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" hebrews 9:27

So there is a judgement at death. to what extent I do no know. because there is also the judgement of nations mathew 23, and the judgement seat of christ. 2nd corinthins 5, and the great white thrown judgement revalatians 20. maybe ou could give me some scritures to back up what you mean?

I know that is hard to understand how a loving God can banish a eternal soul to hell. But please remember he is also a just God. If a judge let a known pedophile rapists, murderer free our sence of right would be violated. We are all breakers of Gods law, and God is no respector of persons. he has done all that he can to save us from eternal tourment. He sent his son the word of God made flesh. Jesus then took our penality he rose again then ascended to heaven. God then sent the blessed holy Spirit to wooh us to him for eternal life. If we reject and despise Gods salvation our damnation is our fault not Gods.

i agree with a few people on this one. HELL DOES NOT BURN FOREVER!!!!

a couple of reasons:

1)Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

now if you sin with out repentence and are sent to hell forever do you not still have eternal life? the bible says that sin receives death not eternity, and Jesus gives eternal life and not death. so hell can't possibly burn forever.

2) yes the bible says things about hell being everlasting (Matthew 25:46, Mark 9:44-46, 2 Thess. 1:9, Rev 14:11, etc.) but Jude 1:7 says that sodom and gomorrah was burned with an eternal fire. so my question to you is sodom and gomorrah still burning today? no they aren't. and in Mark 9 it says an unquenchable fire. that simply means that no one or nothing will have the power or ability to put it out.

for example: if i light a match, and hold it in my fingers until it gets right close and then turn the match around in my hand so that i hodl that ash part, and let it burn until it puts itself out. did i quench it? No i didn't it wasn't quench. the point is that, that match just like sodom and gomorrah didn't not burn forever, but the consequences of the fire was eternal.

3) Malichi 4:3 You shall trample the wicked, For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet On the day that I do this," Says the Lord of hosts.
how can we walk in the ashes of the wicked if they are still burning?

all in all i believe the proof of Romans (that only those who beleive will have eternal life) is the most convincing.'

and as for those that are talking about its not fair for some one who died 4,000 years ago to go to hell because they will be burning longer.

as i showed hell is not burning for eternity, and second no one is in hell right now. Rev 22:12 we see Jesus saying this, "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.

no one has receive their reward yet, whether it is the reward of heaven or hell. and i know that this might depress some, but scripture is very much in favor that when we die no one goes to hell, and as much as we hate it heaven either. simply because no one recieves a reward until the return of Christ.

hope some of this helps.

I have major issues with hell. I am unable to grasp the concept of a loving God burning people forever.

I never really like this part either, but because our spirits live for ever, God has no choice, either you have the covering ( thats Jesus ) over you, thats the key to heaven or you don't. Too many people try to say, babys go to hell, they do not, and how about people who never hear about Jesus, they are judged by there deeds. All the people who lived before Jesus was born, they had not hear of him, God is a fair and just God. In our own familys we really do not know who will be in heaven and who will not. Only God knows the true heart of each person.
