INHERIT
"The Lord God of Israel was their inheritance..."
(Josh. 13:33) Nachal means:
To acquire--Proverbs 3:35. There is no greater possession than God. All who have God have all. Most often this word is used in connection with land, but here is the greatest use of it. It is said of God He took Israel as His own possession and protected and defended them.
To distribute --Num. 34:17. It is missions to share the knowledge of God with those who do not know Him.
INHERIT
"But the meek shall inherit the earth; and delight themselves in the abundance of peace." , (Ps. 37:11). In yarash, the Hebrew root for inherit, there is abundant assurance. (Comp. Matt. 5:5; Rom. 8:17).
It means to occupy --Num. 33:55. To inherit something does not obviate struggling in laying hands on it.
It means to possess --Ps. 37:9, 29, 22. Occupancy of Palestine and all the remainder of the earth is but emblematic of the better prosperity and happiness of life.
It is used to signify an heir --Jer. 49:1. The weeping prophet predicted a glad day for Israel, v.2.
It means to dispossess --Judg. 14:15. Should God choose to give our inheritance to another we would become paupers. (Comp. I Sam. 2:7).
It is used to signify possession of sins of youth--Job 13:26. What a blessing belongs to those whose sins are no longer imputed to them.
