  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey all, music is definitely something I enjoy. Preferably any hardcore rock or heavy metal, underground stuff, not to so much the mainstream but hey it's all good. Who here listens to similar stuff? My favourite group is by far Disturbed, I like Thornley too, Slipknot, and Godsmack. Lots of others but I doubt anybody's heard of them lol. Anyhow, just curious.

I like the kind of metal the radio doesn't play: Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape plan, Mastodon, SYL, thrash, etc. Disturbed & Slipknot & anything else that makes it onto the radio I don't have much respect for (but I'd rather listen to that than Brittney, f'rinstance)

Hey hey now, I wouldn't call them "poppy little girls," I like the underground thrash stuff a lot too, but it's hard to make conversation about a lot of the groups because a) they're local or regional bands and their name doesn't get out much, or b) they're just down right "underground" literally lol, no one's heard of them. Most of what I listen to is pretty much just regional and local stuff.

I don't see why you wouldn't have respect for anyone because they got on the radio, though. And disregarding any specific person or persons because they've excelled to any specific extent is, purely, biased. I, personally, don't "choose" who I respect because of where they are in society, I base that on their general quality of good conduct... though, I don't disrespect anybody.

where's the heavy metal? i see nu metal, don't know thornley..., nu metal, nu metal...

i don't mind a bit of nu metal... get's VERY repetative though... as for metal... absolutely love it. hardcore... get's a bit much after a while, but still good. punk's not horrible... metal is definitely the best though...

its not that they are on the radio.. its just that they suck. if you are with anyone that likes metal or hardcore and bring up between the buried and me, undying, remembering never, throwdown, glass casket...they're know who you are talking about. between the buried and me is signed to victory records....thats a major lable. who said no one has heard of them.

Sadly, SOAD is considered "nu metal". I disagree, cuz nu metal is all so limited & bound by genre constraints. SOAD always manages to sound pretty innovative & cutting edge- they get ripped off alot, at any rate. Have you heard anything off their album coming out in March or April? Sounds pretty good. (but I'm biased, I like 'em :))

I heard one song off the new album ("Figero" perhaps? ), and I thought it sounded really good. I'm sure there will be a lot of growth from the Toxicity album, although I really dig what they did with that. I believe I read somewhere that Daron Malakian (guitarist) took over the bass work (for the studio at least).

I haven't heard anything new from SOAD. But I think they're coming out with a new album soon. They should, and hopefully they'll exterminate Linkin Park and all those whiny, annoying nu-metal bands off the face of the earth!!!!!

I really don't like nu-metal. ;)

Hmmm... Well when I generalize music, I use basic genres to do it. i.e Rock, Heavy Metal, Punk, Pop, Jazz, Country, Rap, etc. Each band (well, sort of) has their own style and others bud off it, then we get like a thousand little sub-genres that confuse anything. And where I live; rich, preppy, pop-culture drowned city... wish I didn't move here, but it beats Oklahoma where I used to live (bleh, country music everywhere). Don't get me wrong, I do listen to the hardcore, thrash underground stuff. I've got my tv set on channel 910 which is Heavy Metal (good stuff). I'm really not exposed to all of those sub-rock or semi-heavy metal, or uber-**** genres... so uh, don't reprimand me for considering Disturbed and what not as metal in my opinion. My laptop's screwed up too... it told me Three Days Grace and Hoobastank was heavy metal, and no, I don't listen to them so don't flip on me.

"Nu-metal" bands can stay on the Earth if they want, I know a lot of people who listen to worse stuff anyhow. Besides, keeps the economy going.
