on tithes, i think they were an old testament ordinance, but God still commands us to give to His work and share with other Christians, particularly those in need. 10% is a good guide, but if you can't give that much, you don't have to. if you can give more than that, you should.

Giving to the church shows your dependence on God's provision. We must not forget the joy that we have when we give to the church. If the offering is worship, then it falls under the Spirit and Truth requirements. We need to give what we can, and we need to give with a thankful heart. Consider this passage:

2 Corinthians 8:1-5

8:1 We want you to know, brothers, http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/search/?q=2+Corinthians+8:1-5#f1about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own free will, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.

The Macedonians gave according to their means and beyond. They were in poverty, and yet they begged to give even more. The size of your giving is not the question. It is the heart that you have for giving.

tithing shows our dependence and trust in God. If we do not give, how can the church do it's work??

There is only one verse in the bible that gives us permission to test God, and it's about this very thing! Giving! I can't remember the exact verse.....maybe someone knows it.....

no-one's saying we shouldn't give. we're just saying the Old Testament ordinance of the 10% tithe is no longer in place. we should give as much as we are able. the most important thing is to give cheerfully
