Ok I know our bodys should be healthy but i got a few questions:
1.I know Adventists says we shouldnt eat unclean food cause of Leviticus(sp?) but isnt there also versus says we shouldnt wear certain kinds of clothing and stuff?i dont think we should pick and choose what we will obey
2. Either way i know i should be healthy for my body is an dwelling place of God. But I am the only Adventist in my family soooooooo vegetarianism(sp?) is basically out of the question. I was wandering how I could get my health up.

Adventists do encourage vegetarianism, but it's not a commandment. And if you don't cook your own food, and your family is not open to making changes in their diet, then it does become somewhat problematic to follow the dietary practices that the Adventist Church promotes. My husband became vegetarian while in college, and his family kind of gave him a hard time about it at first because they were big meat eaters, but eventually they got used to it, and his mom is very accommodating of our lifestyle now when we visit.

As far as the unclean meats thing, you might be interested in reading the thread that's been going for a while here called "Reasons for Vegetarian Diet":
http://www.christianforums.com/t3090175-reasons-for-vegetarian-diet.html

There is some discussion there about the restrictions in Leviticus and whether they still apply. Personally, I think there are still good reasons not to eat many of the animals listed as "unclean" in the Bible although I, too, see some inconsistencies in our applications of the laws in Leviticus. I don't worry about it too much, though, because I don't eat any meat myself.

I guess I would suggest that at meals you try to eat the healthiest things possible out of the available options. Even if your family doesn't understand at first, I think over time they will learn to respect your beliefs even if they don't agree with them.

Also, there are other things you can do to be healthy. You can exercise and make sure you get enough sleep, for example. Health isn't all about what we eat.

Hi,

The Levitical dietary and health laws were given the Israelites to rid their pagan ways and to promote good health.

We use the dietary law as a general biblical guide line for dietary health. But we are not under these old laws. Our church advocates vegetarianism, tithing... These old testament principles are natural laws. So there is no pick and choose.

I support vegetarianism, but far better to go on a plant based diet..

Much healthier to do that.

I know many vegetarians who are not healthy.

Check this site out, I believe he is very close to the truth.

if this helps, i'm the only "vegan" in my family. that's the best way i can describe my diet because it is so similar to veganism. it's not easy and it frustrates my mom sometimes when i don't eat half the things she prepares. my family is vegetarian but i still don't eat a great lot of what they eat. as i found out, there is a world of difference between vegetarianism and the my diet. before i would be tempted to eat the junkfood they eat. and they eat alot of it! as far as cooked foods, i stick to legumes, whole grain cereals and and whole grain bread.

You are right, plant based instead of processed vegie meats.

This is where I feel that as Adventists we have fallen behind in the health message.

It is not to say that they should not be eaten but not in the quantities that they are now.

If it is "green" then eat it.

We have to try and move over to eating more greens and fresh vegies.

Move away from prcessed food of all kinds as far as possible.

I am now making my own brand of spread to replace margarine and butter.

Margarine is a bad substitute for butter. Much better to have your own spread made of things that are good for you.

Good good, good, but be careful you keep your bread to as little as possible.

Bread is one of the main reason why our bodies are acid.

Disease is much harder to survive in an alkaline body.

I believe you are well on the right track.

I agree. We hardly ever eat fake meats--usually only at potlucks, which in our area are often not very healthy. Packaged veggie meats are not very appealing to people who are used to eating real meat, either.

I buy soy spread with non-hydrogenated oil in the health-foods section of our grocery store, rather than using butter or margarine.

really?

i just increased my bread consumption (semolina bread) for carbs, since i overloaded on protein just recently, my nutritionist told me to switch to carbs to gain weight along with my weight training program.

and yes, those veggie meats are garbage! please, no offense to anyone, but i seriously believe they harmful to one's health.
