• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am a christian who has always believed in God and Jesus but did not choose to live for Christ until about 2 years ago when I asked him for forgiveness and was saved. During my many years living as I chose I got HIV. I have been on meds for a long tiime and they have worked wonderfully. I am getting ready to lose my medicaid which is how I've been able to receive them and am not sure how I will pay for them. I have been praying for a year or so for God to heal me or show me a way to continue getting my pills. I REALLY felt he answered me recently and told me that I was healed and no longer needed my pills so I quit taking them. I have had flu like symptons for the past couple of weeks now which is a sign of the virus trying to take back over. Now I'm unsure if taking the pills again is a sign of weakness in my faith or if I was just wrong to begin with when I thought he healed me. I don't think I have the flu.

Hi and welcome. No, I don't think that taking those pills is a sign of no faith. I believe the Lord gives us doctors and such to help us.

I also don't think you were wrong about your healing, sometimes this just happens, hold strong to your faith.

Thank you for responding. I know he gave us doctors to help us and I know they say there is no cure for HIV but I also know God can do anything. I will keep praying for answers and hopefully I will feel better soon but if not I guess I will have to start taking the pills again and maybe he will answer my prayers by providing a way for me to continue receiving them. God bless!

Seeking medical attention is definitely not a weakness in your faith. I would advise you or anyone who has an immediate medical need to seek medical help immediately. Further, I believe in regular checkups, get those too, and take all necessary meds. I also pray and ask for healing at church.

Don't forget the faith-filled Apostle Paul had a "thorn in the flesh" that many theologians believe was some illness. He prayed that God would remove the thorn, but God replied, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9)

God doesn't always say yes to our specific request. But I believe that God has good plans for you. He promises to complete the good work that He started in you (Philippians 1:6). Maybe God wants you to have faith that He will work through your illness to strengthen others. Sometimes there is a bigger, better purpose in the pain rather than removing the pain.

I have suffered chronic illness and the topic of healing always seems to come up at some point. People can have strong opinions concerning this issue and I just want you to know asking others for help (medical or non-medical people) is not a sign of lack of faith or weakness. God loves you and has a plan.

Tinok, Almighty God uses doctors every day of the week for healing! I am on disability now, but did seek out Divine healing....3 times! I know that God Divinely heals people everyday! So, how come I got no where? I was truly bummed at first. My faith is strong... unyielding, but nothing happened. As I said, I was crushed. After the 3rd time, I stopped going to 'healing' services. I had to make a decision to attempt to continue to work or file or disability. So, after I gained courage, I finally asked the Lord...."Are You going to divinely heal me on this earth?" He said, "No." It's not as if I didn't already know that, but I had to hear it from Him. It didn't dawn on me until years later that, like Paul, I asked 3 times. Duh!

So some years later, I was reading a story about someone being Divinely healed and I started weeping. I asked Him, "Why wasn't I healed?" He answered me, "Because I can use you better as you are." I was ok with that! The interesting thing I found out since my body started having autoimmune problems, is my 'spiritual gifts' got rearranged. Always before, prophecy and exhortation were one and two.......now, it's 1) mercy; 2) prophecy; 3) exhortation. Mercy had never scored high before.

Okay, I've said all of that to say this.....DON'T ALLOW PEOPLE TO DISCOURAGE YOU TO SEE DOCTORS. God uses doctors like He uses preachers! Don't allow any man/woman to discourage you about your faith 'being strong' enough. That's hogwash. They have no idea what God has in store or you to do. You do what God lays on your heart. Not everyone is the same. Not everyone is a finger or foot in the Body of Christ. Some of us, are nose hairs!:D
